CODEMASTERS READ THIS BECAUSE ITS ANNOYING MANY PEOPLE

Recommended Posts

What is the reason we must have AI cars in online races? CM are you serious? i mean i want to play online..not with 2-3 people and a bunch of AI cars which ruin your race more than other online people! Also in sprint mode make the damage visual only because its a freakin 5 lap race! ALSO ADD LEADERBOARDS

At least an AI car does not know any better.  People do.....So many people still hit you very hard to push you off track in order to gain position.  A HUGE glitch in F1 2015 is that if you get hit in the rear by someone, you will get penalized for it, not the offender.

the problem is there's so few people playing online (because there's no 25% or 50% races with assists) that they are obliged to put some ai cars to plug the holes.
it's a shame, and as long as they do not listen to the players it will be more and more ridiculous.

The decision to add AI to hoppers was to try to ensure that there were always at least a certain number of cars on the grid for a race. As a starting assumption I don't think that's bad. The problem is the speed of the AI is never going to please everyone, make them Legend and they're going to beat some players which isn't fun, make them Easy and people are frustrated because they're moving chicanes.

Something I've said before is that we'll remove the AI from hoppers to gauge what difference that makes to peoples experience, that should get done with the next patch.

Hi Lozzy,

I really do hope the AI are removed from hoppers in the next patch. I can understand CM's thinking with regards to getting numbers on the grid - but it's really not about that. And it's really not about the AI speed either, and being able to find neutral speed to please everybody.

1) It is the concept that we race online, multi-PLAYER, not multi-AI. To please the people that DO want AI (out of interest - I wonder as a % how many people actually do want this?), make the chances of AI's appearing in a lobby 50% maximum.
2) Also, as the O.P said, for the 5-lap race, please remove the damage. One small knock from someone, your front wing is gone, and your chances of winning are effectively over. This format (as well as the equivalent 'Quick Race' in F1 2014 and earlier) are the Arcadey equivalent of just racing, with no real strategy element required. It should be just flat out racing, with a penalty system.
3) Leaderboards, not really fussed. They are not truly representative as having someone's number of wins, next to the number of races, really does not mean much, and should not be the true way to rank the top leading drivers.

1) I agree.
2) Seems sensible.
3) Leaderboards for online performance are never going to please anyone unless they're number 1. Personally I don't see much value in them.

Personally not had a problem with AI cars in MP (since I only play with friends I suppose) but more options are always nice. Leaderboards between friends are fine but global leaderboards..... the sooner they get removed from every single game the better. All they do is encourage more and more cheaters/hackers/exploiters/abuse which makes playing nearly all online games completely insufferable unless with a group of people you personally know.

Rather than removing great features from games (like leaderboards) because of cheaters, I'd much prefer that game creators plug the holes in their games that make them so easy to exploit - along with some post-launch policing & banning of cheaters.

I quite like time-trial/hot-lap leaderboards in racing games, and I'd hate to see them go just because game companies let a few bad apples ruin it for everyone.

Oh I agree with that, all companies should be making sure their leaderboards are scrubbed clean everyday of those sort of cheaters. I'm talking more about the people that, don't cheat in the literal term, but rather allow their desire to get a higher leaderboard score affect how they play and treat other players instead of just playing the game and enjoying it. Things like spamming the same moves in fighting games, shoving another player off the track or into a wall to get ahead or disconnecting when they're about to lose to stop the other player winning (although some like Mortal Kombat have finally started punishing people for that). Even as far as kicking others out of lobbies or refusing to play against others simply because they have more wins or something and fear they could negatively impact their leaderboard score. I've seen a lot of people do all these sorts of thing just for the sake of having a slightly better number on the board and it kills a lot of the enjoyment of online play.

At the moment, the only thing we can do is block these kinds of people. I know it's flawed logic since there will always be cheaters and it's a crappy way to combat them, but if there's no leaderboards it'd probably reduce the amount of these people somewhat. I'd be all in favour of leaderboards otherwise for those that enjoy competing in them. I probably worded that last post badly.

The original issue about AI in hoppers will be addressed shortly along with some other minor changes to Hoppers. I will leave you to discuss the merits of leaderboards and if they improve enjoyment or not.

@Lozzy, for most of the 'good' players out there, the non-legend AI ARE driving chicanes, even in the Hardcore- no assist lobby. We always lap all of the AI cars even in 25% races
