Audio / SoundFX discussion

Btw, putting files in dropbox isn't how we make games - it's just in this case, I'm responsible and could fix it easily with a single file... avoiding a month of moaning over the Evo in the process. :)

Probably won't do it again.

Quick question @cmsoundfx. How come you didn't use @JonTucker and @KickUp's Group A Scooby for the sounds?

It's not Group A is it? Besides, why would I use that when we recorded "n555 bat" !?

Dunno if their car is Group A tbh, I just wondered why you hadn't sampled it as it must have been the easiest of all to arrange for it to be mic'd up.
I'm not complaining or anything, I was just curious

I don't believe it sounded anything like a Group A. But in answer to your question, it was either broken down, having new parts or in storage elsewhere when Jon was here. So didn't get the opportunity, or I guess we would have recorded it anyway. :)

I did just notice something with the 555 Impreza while dropping the DiRT 3 Celica into the v2 of the car (can't stop me! I WILL have my Sega Rally car 10 years after it's Saturn release!).  :D
Two files in Bundles.

Hmm, not sure what you think you've spotted. Those are my filenames. Sometimes they are literal, sometimes cryptic. In this case it's just what we recorded.

If that file is in the 555 folder it's because it was replaced with the group A when we recorded it.

Ah, NR4. Well, you can see the timing between R4 and the newly added R4 class of cars.
Based on what you were saying, I was actually just wondering if it would have been a closer match for Jon's Impreza, but I guess not.

Fair enough. I was just thinking, I should have let @justbiglee name the engine bundles back in the day.

I keep meaning to comment on this thread TuliRally, but I'm just a bit busy.

In the meantime, for those who are not happy with the current Evo engine, try this...

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48910186/4cyl_tb_evo_x_steve_hill_dd.bdl

Just replace the file in: ... \cars\models\mer\bundles

I'll remove the link when it goes live in next update.

Cheers

So what's the file in the ai folder? Does it matter?

Ignore it.

If I was to guess, legacy code.

Kinda, the 'AI' versions of engine bundles are used for when the players car is present along side other cars. Which is only the case in rallyx.

That makes sense, and, did you have a problem with the DS3 version of that in 0.8? - i kept forgetting to submit a bug with that sound being all whacked.

The new Evo sound file is brilliant, low bassy note and plenty of ALS!!

Hmm I don't know, the Evo should sound a little bassier still? Unless I've been watching the wrong Evo X videos...

Did those Evos look like this?

I still prefer the new sound file, i agree its not a super bassy sound from the real Evo, but you could barely hear the anti lag in the old sound file. And we all know you hear a proper tuned evo a mile away  ;)
