F1 2016 discussion

Recommended Posts

I have an idea regarding practice, at the minute this might just be me, but I set like 1 lap in practice just too see where I am in terms of the ai.
Anyways onto the idea, it could implemented that practice actually benfits you over the race weekend e.g. the engineer could say "Right, we're going to do race simulation so complete a minimum of 10 continous laps to gauge tyre wear for the race." So the more laps you complete the more the strategy for the race gets adapted e.g. cutting down to a 2 stop instead of a 3 stop or knowing the car is better on primes whilst running with high fuel

Could be pointless in the view of developers but it would actually give the player incentive to participate in practice

Honestly - and this might be controversial for some people - but I'd be happy for iterations of F1 to basically be DLC.
Many of us would, but I'm fairly sure their current licence doesn't let them do that. And to be honest, even with declining sales of the full-price game each year (this year's increase was doubtless a welcome blip due to being the first on new gen consoles), I doubt they'd be able to generate as much income from DLC as they do from a full price release each year. So it would probably never fly with the shareholders.

This sounds fairly similar to the R&D aspect that used to be in career mode... meeting those kinds of R&D objectives in practice gave you upgraded car performance, albeit not always for that same weekend.

I think R and D should play out as follows in career mode; you start your career with a bottom tier team.  You complete r and d objectives in free practice and races.  The money you make through completing these objectives can be spent on upgrading your car.  Now your Manor car has the same performance as Force India after season 1. You decide to remain with Manor for a second season, after season 2 your Manor has the same performance as the Williams.  You decide to leave Manor and sign with Williams.  In season 3 the Manor team is still competitive with same performance even tough you are not driving for them.   After another 2 seasons the Manor car start dropping in performance because the AI drivers for the team aren't meeting r and d objectives.  In other words, r and d gets carried over from season to season. This will make career more dynamic I think.

Love it or hate it the DLC idea is extremely unlikely to happen. Now that's out of the way you can focus back on discussing game elements.

You're right at some point. R&D should be really important but, it's more complexe.
Your car can progress, but don't forget almost every teams cars evolve too.
Progression depends on  many factors, driver's feedback, engineers skill, infrastructures, money, ambition, etc.

So a Manor car shouldn't be able to catch up easily a william's car. In reality, Manor will never be able to catch up william's even if he recruits Hamilton and Vettel.

@Lozzy, is there any chance of formation laps being entered into 2016? I know it somewhat breaks the equilibrium of sim and arcade you guys shoot for, but I think every player who generally likes and understands F1 would like it. I think it would bring amazing immersion, seeing your team remove your car from the stands and looking at all the personnel leaving the grid and then doing the actual lap would surly 100% bring up the intensity before a race, online and offline. Perhaps an option to have it enabled or disabled would be a good idea. Surly it isn't a big deal compared to other potential features but I think I can speak for a lot of people that it well be received well.

People said that about podium celebrations for years before they added them, too. Then they did, and now everybody just skips them as quickly as possible.

People skipping the podium makes sense, it's the exact same movements and it's not intractable, at least with a formation lap you're the one in control, maybe i'm the in the minority in favor but I've done formation laps on rFactor and it definitely makes it more fun, but I suppose it won't mean much if we don't get manual starts either.

Formation laps would be great to see, it coule affect your start and coule bring up more realism to the game.
And it is great to build up tension :)

Formation laps and and cool down laps after race would be great. The podiums are ok, but it would be good to bring back the press conference/media pen interviews from 2010-2011 that influenced the direction of career mode. Speaking of which, CAREER MODE, essential for 2016.
Also safety car, virtual safety car, stop go penalties.

Gameplay:
Formation Lap
Cool down lap after every race
Safety Car
Virtual Safety car
Mechaincal failures
Different line in wet condition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJmL-KP-iaU

Career Mode:
GP2 and GP3(not likely to happen, I know)
It should start with that you are doing some sort of young driver test at the end of 2015. Then you'll get offers from some team's. It could be like a test driver offer if you didn't do very well.
-in a test driver role you should do like a practice session here and there over the season, and if you are doing well you might get the chance to do a race
Pick your own number
Design your own helmet
Better R&D. You should be able to have some sort of influence on the development of the car.

Online:
Stabilize the game online.
Watch replay of the race
Your designed helmets could be used
Design your own car(not very likely to happen)
Give league racers a better experience

It's funny to see how many requests for features have already existed in (very) old f1 games.
Damn Codemasters... What have you done since all this time ? :/

hey don't say they are not up to date, they gave us the champagne spraying celebration animation ( which goes against the pegi rating) and hoppers for multiplayer and took away career mode. They know exactly what we want lol

Presumably it doesn't because at no point is there any suggestion that there's alcohol in the bottles.

there is no alcohol in the red strip in the martini logo either I wonder why they never put that in. Oh because it looks like the martini sign, well it clearly looks like a bottle of champagne they're spraying. A bad bottle at that but a bottle of cheap champers none the less.

Age ratings. If we wanted the Martini logo we would have to be 18 rated.

It's not champagne it's rose water as used in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain on the podium for the same reasons.

I can see that a cool down lap would be interesting to a lot of people, especially after a long race because at the moment we do tend to just cut to the results very quickly and that feels bad to me.

Podiums are too repetitive, those animations are very time consuming to make though so the scope for change is probably limited. I'd like to see some new camera angles at least to add variety.

Yes, with the same camera angles, people simply want to skip the podium scene as there is no variation. If there was a different sequence every time, it'd be more interesting to watch. I say- don't work any more on podiums at all, they don't add much. Instead focus on PRE-race features, like the busy grid before the race, a fancy run down of the starting positions, a warm up lap (for 50% + races).

Don't work on cinematics at all anymore. Give us a proper career mode. That adds much more to the game.

@Lozzy I was thinking it might be a cool idea to have some kind of 'trophy/ show-room' displayed in the main menu. After you win a race in championship/career you get the GP's trophy added and you can view them/zoom in with perhaps the stats of the GP as a memory.

Right now I feel that the games lack some sense of  reward for winning a race/championship, because all you get is the animation. Adding something simple like these trophies would make us feel more like we're actually working towards/doing it for something. Maybe it could be something else to give the same feeling, but I'd personally love to have trophies or other unlock-ables.

What about a proper yellow-flag system in the next game? Until now we only had these "2 second yellow flag periods" and suddenly everything is cleared again. Obviously that's ok for "going wide situations" but I never experienced a longer yellow flag period, e.g. debris, real accident or anything like that.
+ I think you still don't get penalized if you overtake under yellow or if you don't reduce speed (sector delta must be + 0,5 sec in real life AFAIK).

do not understand how you can think about the F1 2016 with the countless failures there in 2015. in 2016 will return to fool everyone.
