Team Meeting - Dnote's Notes 22/10/15

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So, as you all know we had a team meeting yesterday. This time, most of what was discussed isn't publicly viable information for various reasons which I may or may mention here.

Patches!

PC: The previously mentioned optimisation patch for PC is almost ready, there are a few non-development issues that need to be resolved before we can push it out to Steam though. This patch has taken longer than expected, so we've managed to get a few more fixes in there than we were originally expecting. As soon as we have an actual date for this patch we'll let you know, we should also get patch notes in the next few days for it as well.

PS4 & Xbox One: These patches are sitting behind the PC patch, once the above is out the door we'll have a better understanding of the time frame for them and what will be in them. This largely comes down to shared resources such as QA being available (in the volumes we need), but we're not anticipating any issues with these at the moment.

Seasons Updates

We're actively working on some season updates, the details of which will have to remain a closely guarded secret for now. As with any changes to the visual assets, we need to go back to Formula One and the teams for re-approvals, once we have those approvals we can tell you what we're doing. It might not be everything you expect, but there are updates coming in regards to this. It also helps if we have nice shiny pictures to show you of the changes, rather than just a written list, we might even do a blog post!

12k Resolution

This wasn't really from yesterday's meeting, but is probably worth sharing as Lee posted this earlier: https://twitter.com/TheLeeMather/status/657154358908424192

Intel have kindly lent us three 4k TVs, for various reasons. But all we're really interested in is seeing what we can do with F1 2015 on them. To this end, in addition to their normal work, a few people on the team will be attempting to add support to the game for 11,520 x 2160 resolution. We'll let you know how it goes and how many gaming PCs we burn through in the process!

Community Manager

It has been awhile since we had a community manager on F1 and I can tell you now that we're not going to have a new community manager on F1. Instead we have a Social Media Manager! I'm not really sure what the fancy title means, but you may have seen a little activity on the Facebook and Twitter channels for F1 2015 recently and this is down to that person. She will also be introducing herself on the forums soon, once she has had a little more time to adjust to Codemasters.

Personally, I take it as a massive win that she met the F1 dev team yesterday and then came into work again today! I've also been a little quiet these last couple of weeks, whilst I focus on my own games, so the sooner she gets stuck in the better (try not to scare her off).

The Next Game

We're going to want to talk about it a lot, informally, soon. So just a heads up, that when we do, it doesn't mean we're dropping F1 2015, it just means that we have a timeline and plenty of ideas and plans that need to met if we're going to get it out on time next year and it is our intention that you're part of those plans.

Thanks,

Thanks for the update.  However, you folks at Codemasters need to know that your entire F1 gaming reputation is hanging on this next PATCH.  The F1 community have been plenty patient and have given Codemasters plenty of information so that the CORRECT issues would be addressed and fixed in this upcoming  Patch.  Here at the Precision Racing League, we also have been waiting patiently, but upper management has already said that if Multiplayer is not fixed in the next PC patch, we will go with another game and forget about Codemasters.  There are many small issues out there and there is ONE very BIG issue, and that one BIG issue has always been MULTIPLAYER.  I would hope with all the extra time you have taken getting this new PC patch ready, that you have fixed F1 2015 online/Multiplayer stability.  What I am saying here is "this  is your last chance" patch.  All the people that put their confidence in Codemasters F1 2015 have waited and waited for Codemasters to do something that really made the game playable across all modes, i.e. fixing the bugs in the game itself, fixing the Multiplayer online stability, an just making the game stable across the board.  We are not listening to all your "media hype" any more.  Actions speak louder than words, especially now that Codemasters has fallen flat on their face with each and every PC Patch so far.  If you folks are going to release this new PC patch without intensive testing on your end, and plan on just throwing it out there for the public to BETA test it for you, don't waste your time!.  Quality and stability testing is paramount before you release "anything".  The other thing is this.  Codemasters should not even worry or even think about next years game until you have fixed F1 2015.  Everyone I have talked to are NOT going to even think about buying F1 2016 until they know for sure the current F1 game is working properly in ALL modes such as Multiplayer/Online and offline function and stability.  Your message was a nice gesture, but all Codemasters is doing now is attempting to pacify game owners while they scramble to make things right.  Again, Codemasters future completely depends on whether or not this next PC/X-Box, and PlayStation Patch will "FIX" the big ticket items.  The items that every other game that is multiplayer capable have had working just fine for years.  How could Codemasters screw things up so bad is beyond me???  Anyhow, I wish you guys the very best of luck because you are going to need it.

The more and more I read from you guys, it seems like you are a 10 men company wtf... I don't mean to offend you even, I'm honestly concerned that are too little people on the F1 job...  1 person for all media? I mean like, it should be a whole company on that part allone. It's like F1 is built with the lefotvers of people in the company, and if I can be frankly for once at least, the game kinda resembles it (I still play it with love tho :-P )

Thanks for the update.

Whilst you are still working on 2015 and working out what you can tell us about what you are planning to do with '15, please DO NOT MENTION F1 2016, do not talk about THE NEXT GAME. People want to believe you are working to fix THIS game and not just planning for the next-big-lie/money-grab/death-knell-of-codies-f1. Saying stuff like "Ooh and please don't be angry if we talk about the next game it doesn't mean we are dropping '15"
doesn't really help as you'd obviously dropped 15 long before the release and took whatever spare testing/development money there was and used it to pay off game reviewers :)  (Ain't my tinfoil hat pretty)
A little bit of information but in the end mostly fluff. Its good to know that whilst I never got to enjoy my game despite paying full price for it, at least I know you guys are getting to hoon around on some free Intel monster screens that aren't relevant to 99% of us right now.

I understand from the publicity "online" problems has had since release, that there is a huge problem there, but let me tell you, as an "offline" player on PC, F1 2015 still has a long way to go offline as well.

Thanks for the update. And the communication but I hope this new social manger is only for Facebook twitter and doesn't give you guy's the excuse to disappear so us guy's on the forum's are back to the days of WHERE THE FRIG ARE YOU?

All I'm hoping for is you guy's will still communicate with us on the forum's. All I'm hoping for is you guy's to start sorting out the corner cutting issue's and internet lag spikes at the very least after that we can talk about season updates. I know you have deadlines to meet but I would rather wait for F1 2016 until F1 2015 is fixed and the online racing needs to be sorted. I'm no coder and I don't understand how tough it is but I hope you guy's can make it work. ;)

I hope @Lozzy sticks around, a hands on guy can usually tell you more in one sentence than a manager will in ten paragraphs.

Honestly  I was expecting New PS4 patch to be ready.... Weeks after patch 1.05 .... I am tired of waiting and disappointed that PS4 patch will likely take another few weeks. Surely 2nd chance for everyone but now more than two chances...Sold my copy now and surely not be buying 2016.

Same here we had a good race in Austin with safety cars good racing and weather all things codemasters can't sort out within their games. They even had the time to build the 2015 game since fall 2013.  What they need is a bigger dev team and coders so they can meet their deadlines. Just before the game going gold. I don't know what you guy's think of codemasters but next time I'II wait for reviews of their next F1 game.

TL;DR = "We're doing things & stuffs. Can't tell you what or when. Good talk."

Right on man...That is what I have been saying all along.  I made this mistake as well, and I know a lot of people that had faith in Codemasters, but no more!!!!  Just don't buy the game, and then, and only then, we will either see Codemasters do what they were supposed to do in the first place, or they will just give up.  Personally, I see them giving up way before they will try to produce a decent F1 game!  I am trying to get the word out as far and wide as possible.  "Do not buy F1 2016 until you are absolutely sure it is working properly in all modes".  That means doing a lot of reading blogs and other posts from people that have already bought the game, and then have used all the features the game offers over and over, and especially,  take note of all the promises made by Codemasters that fall flat on the floor next year.  I remember all the ________ we were fed by Codemasters regarding how cool and how much better F1 2015 was going to be.  Please folks, remember this "actions speak louder than words".
