Bring in a league server system

Recommended Posts

It would be interesting to hear from those who participate in leagues and especially those who run them what new features we could add to cater to them. Lets leave bugs out of this thread please, those are already covered elsewhere!

Whenever someone gets a in-game penalty, the xbox/playstation should automatically record a gameclip. This will help dispute incidents. An auto re-join whenever someone disconnects

@Lozzy has codies fixed the lag spikes on the xbox one? I'll remind you again if the multiplayer isn't fixed by Xmas then there will be no leagues on f1 2015

@Lozzy i also think that you codies should creat a league system for different levels of drivers. This is because when i first starting trying to get into a league 2 years ago i could never find one  and now i finaly have

I have always asked for the ability in the multiplayer part of the game for the addition of a 1 hour free practice session. We know the cars online act differently to offline so that would be a good addition for setups.

Another one possibly would be the ability to save qualifying grids and use them at a later date or the admin of the session has the power to change the grid to see fit.

@Lozzy In our league, being able to save replays would be very very useful. Right now we all  have to record our 100% races separately in order to investigate incidents afterwards and the 'stewards' have to go through a ton of different videos. If we could save interactive replays ( switching drivers/views ) this would make it much easier.

Would make for some good publicity too, because there'd be lots of leagues making awesome compilation videos!

Codemasters arranged a league a few seasons ago where members of the main league's, and a few lesser league's who managed to get invites raced off against each other. I'd love to see that again once you actually get around to fixing things.  Okay I'm not likely to play your game again but I still like to watch others battling...

I'm gonna say a couple of things but I think it's too much work (and I understand why) for now;

Being able to run a practice session on your own and people being able to join you and actually start driving in that session as well.

Full multiplayer replays where you can watch anyone, we already have mandatory recording and uploading for everyone, but could still be nice.

I'm not sure if the "reversed" grid thing works, ok you could say that's a bug and not to put it here, but maybe add something like GP2 where top 8 is reversed only. This is only nice for some "extra" leagues where you want closer racing or whatever.

Ow yeah, big one, and probably not that hard to code this one; when you put 50% race distance after a 1 hour practice session, the tyres in that practice session should behave as they would in that 50% race. You pretty much can't use practice sessions for 50% league races...

Another one which I kinda expected by now but wasn't there (can't really blame or anything, since it isn't there either in another known game) is larger grids.

I'm not sure how this is for licensing and again this is again for some "offleagues", but how about older cars (even as much as putting the 2015 cars in 2016 as well) and the older tracks (hockenheim, valencia, whatever) being able to choose.

In the future, a formation lap could certainly add to the atmosphere. Having that one warm up lap before the lights go out certainly may add adrenaline at the start, rather than being thrown in after qualifying. Just some food for thought.

I think what mainly enhances online league races is how well everyone can be in sync. If the multiplayer issues can be sorted out, that'd be enough to satisfy me as wheel to wheel racing is the best bit of it!

@Tejuarr There already is an option for a 1 hour practice session in custom lobbies! I ran one online yesterday.

How mate ? I cannot find that would be a great help if you told me how. @Worntoathread

@Tejuarr You make a custom lobby ( invite only or friends only), go to lobby options -> race options, the same menu where you choose race length and qualy type. Where it says practice you should be able to change it from 'none' to 30 minutes or 60 minutes. You'll find it ;)

If someone disconnect before the race session in an online weekend, let them be able to rejoin the session. Starting at the back of the grid with the last used setup.

Being able to save replays where you can hop between cars would be fantastic (Project Cars and Assetto Corsa both have this).

I would also strongly support the lobby leader being able to manually set a grid order because quite often people get kicked/disconnected between qualifying and the race which means we either have to re-run quali, attempt to replicate the correct order with a one-shot quali or else start the race with a random grid and use the first lap to get into the correct order for a rolling start.

If the lobby leader could select "race only" and then set a grid order of all the drivers in the lobby it would be so so so so so useful.

@Lozzy @unknown113 Letting players rejoin after a disconnect in practice or qualifying is a very good idea.

Another one: The host of the session/league should be able to restart any online session, in case something goes wrong or multiple people disconnect etc. Otherwise maybe add a 'vote to restart' option.

Maybe a little too ambitious, but it could be a fun option: include a small 'career' type of team progress to the league servers, This could be similar to the previous games: You start out with a certain team, pick a rival from a better team, and have him risk his seat if you beat him. I'd love something like that, but it should be optional because many leagues have their own ways of assigning players to different teams. :)

There are some really interesting ideas here, please do keep them coming.

I will suggest that to the new social media manager.

I will suggest we add an option to save a replay of an online race. That's going to take some time to implement though and the file size might be prohibitive. In the games that do this how many players can you have and how many laps?

Is this not the case at the moment, it should be I think.

Restarting a session online isn't something we've tried before, I don't know how much work that would be. Again I'll suggest it though. I would image this would need to be limited to private lobbies only though to stop people messing about.

@Lozzy With a grid of 18-20 players and a 45 minute race an Assetto Corsa replay file is about 250-300MB.

I think pCars replay files are miniscule as they have some kind of clever implementation , I'll check and edit this post later as I don't know off the top of my head.

Edit: Not quite as miniscule as I thought, but I have a replay of a 46 minute long online race at Le Mans in pCars with a 32 (!) car grid which is 350MB

@Lozzy Yes, I imagine this would only be useful for organized lobbies/leagues. In our league we often have the problem where one of the players has a disconnect in qualy. If this happens we all have to quit and make a new lobby, so having the option to let players rejoin in practice and/or qualy, combined with the option to restart the session would really help a lot in these situations.

Another thing I've heard lots of people chatting about in leagues: It's a shame that the HUD only shows the car in front, behind, and the leader positions. If you're in the middle of the pack this makes it hard to know what's going on in the race. I know lots of people would be happy with a small scrolling type of positions indicator with gaps similar to real F1, showing all player positions and gaps. This way you could see how everyone else is doing :)
