New wheel! best settings?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys hope everyone is enjoying dirt rally i certainly am :). Just got my new t300rs wheel and I am really enjoying it however I cant really find the sweet spot, it feels a bit floaty when driving and doesn't centre back as quick as i'd like. I have the thrustmaster settings at the following;
1080 degree rotation
75% force feedback
100%
100%
0
0
auto centre settings by the game

in dirt rally my wheel settings are default including feedback (all at 100% except suspension, which is at 60%). Could you please give me your favourite settings so I can adjust accordingly? I'd like a bit more road feel, other than that the game is truly excellent

I've mainly just driven without setting up too much, so I'm interested in this topic aswell. I think the default settings are decent, though I upped the force feedback in the driver to 95% just because I like some more feedback in general.

I also think that the wheel isn't centering fast enough, so if you got any nice trick to the settings that helps with that I'd be thrilled.

I have found that Self Aligning Torque needs maxxed out to give best feedback (this is what corrects the wheel for you when you experience oversteer)

I got a G27 a few days ago, and still find it slightly vague too

Do you not find it really hard to recover a big unexpected slide with low torque @dgeesi0 ?

DG is crazy. His driving must be 99% visual. But hey, he's quick so can't really criticise.

When I switched from the g27 to the t300 I found the t300 needed higher SAT setting, possibly even slightly higher than 100. As Kev said this is the main thing you want to mess with. I turn the friction all the way off (it just dampens) and the tyre friction down somewhat as it still seems to give a tiny bit of useful feedback. The rest of the settings are purely vibration and can be tweaked to your taste. Some people don't like any of these effects interfering with the real ffb (SAT), others like to have it to indicate wheelspin. The suspension setting gives vibration from the road surface and collision is fairly self explanatory. The tyre slip vibrations seem to interfere most with SAT as they tend to kick in powering out of a corner when the wheel would be straightening.

Sorry if I messed up any of the names of settings, just going by memory.

no i just quick flick it back as i only have to turn the wheel small fractions. :)

Ahh, low saturation :)

Something about the message being too short.

Cheers guys very interesting responses, I have the SAT up to 100% but may increase it even further as the wheel is still not centering fast enough out of corners which is making life difficult! Its all about tweaking i guess :)

Thank you mate thats very informative, I will tweak those settings when i get back from work, I like a raw setting and one which is as close to real life as possible without any "fake" ffb feel so I will definitely make some changes. On a side note if I do decide to turn something  up over 100% will I risk damage to my wheel?

I found a nice setting last night.  i had tried out the Impact FFB mod, but didn't like it, so back to standard.  I will post my settings later (G27).

Just to add, what I aim for, is something that feels realistic & intuitive to drive.  I have tested it on gravel and Tarmac with both 2 & 4wd.  I'm happy when I get to the point of having a massive accident & can work with the wheel to recover the slide, that the wheel is well dialled in.

Nice I'm intrigued to hear what your settings are and will try them out when you let us know :). This is exactly what im struggling with at the moment, I find RWD cars are a lot of work especially when the rear end goes and you have to catch the wheel, seems as though I am all over the place although I may just need more practice! Btw guys I use "soft lock" do you? Afaik that matches the real life rotational angle of the car to the wheel you are using, its very challenging in some cars!

Yes @seanp92 , I do use soft lock, but for RWD, I would turn the saturation down to 65-70 to lessen the lock further.  You can catch and counter oversteer that way.  I find that & Self Aligning Torque above 100% really help with slide control, as the suspension & wheel should do most of the work for you when tail out!! :)

@KevM Very good point that's one thing I've been really struggling with... I started career mode and did pretty well in the mini, then when i switched to the fiat abarth (full 1080 lock) it was a nightmare so I'll definitely change the saturation. What exact percentage do you have self aligning torque at? Also could you please post your other settings, I want to turn off some settings that are "fake" if you know what I mean, cheers mate

I'm up to 135% SAT at the minute.  I will post the Profiler and Game settings when i get home

Are you using a G27 too @seanp92 ?

I will try that, im at 100% at the moment but the wheel simply isn't centering back fast enough when car is returning from a slide. Cheers mate appreciate that. No I'm using my new Thrustmaster T300RS

Cheers Kev I will give them settings a go! I changed some of my settings, I found that if you lower the superficial one's such as tyre friction, collision and soft lock but leave SAT up to 100+ it makes a huge difference, I felt so much more control over the wheel and it wasn't shaking all over the place, I think it also centred itself faster which made it easier driving RWD cars especially

SAT > 100 is what is bringing you a whole new experience.
collision just adds rumble effect when you crash.
Soft lock is just the amount of force you will find when you rech the turning ratio limit of the car; e.g. 2010´s have 540º. When you reach the 540º limit the will will be harder to move, and after the 540º limit wheel does not work , I mean, theres no further turning despite you can physically reach the 900º limit

Definitely I agree, I mean that when I had everything on 100% the wheel would shake when the car was going in a straight line which is not normal, tweaking the settings and lowering some that are superficial definitely made it better, aswell as increasing the SAT which as you said definitely makes a big difference!
