AI on starts

Recommended Posts

i dont know what you guys did but you, screwed it up when i first got f1 2015 on release here in north america, it was so good, now it feels like f1 2014 and its way worse the ai just stick to racing line they dont even go 2x2 they go single file for literally like the first lap of the race

It was always like that before any patches.  After the second lap the ai looks like they are part of a train, running single file.  Coming from racing project cars, that was the first thing I noticed.

I disagree - see video of Mexico below. AI are pretty aggressive at getting by each other

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-oJImHIdsw

My issue with starts is actually the penalty system. Turn 1/2 and there is a collision - yellow's are immediately out and whilst jostling for position you're penalised for illegal overtake and have to submit.

This would never normally happen. Race stewards would wait until the dust settles (maybe a few seconds) then bring out yellow's as the situation at that corner becomes clear.

Perhaps the logic can include a 3,4,5 second delay before deciding to bring out yellow's - not sure if this can be more specific to how many cars are near each other where the incident is detected.

Either way, this has happened a lot to me.

I agree with @HelmetSquad. It's happened to me a few times. Not so bad in single player because I use a flashback but it's very annoying online.

Also @Lozzy. I'm sure this must have been brought up before but the AI, even on legend difficulty, back out of overtakes and/or side by side action far too easily still. There's some evidence of that in the video above. It happens far too much, I want to see the AI being more aggressive in their driving, particularly when fighting side by side for position. They always brake and give up the position too easily and end up losing a couple of seconds.

I'd much rather crash because they were more aggressive than see the above happen all the time.

There is a limit in reality to side by side dueling though and it gets far too exaggerated in this game. I have just finished a 100% race in Japan where on the second lap, Rosberg and Bottas stayed side by side continuously between turn 2 and turn 9 through the corners as well.

If you show any sort of close wheel to wheel battling with the AI though they 9/10 back out of it or swerve across the track for no apparent reason.

This is tricky because if the AI race you and end up taking you out you're going to be on here telling us how bad our AI is. I agree they lack killer instinct to stick a car up the inside, run past the apex a bit and force the other car to concede the corner, that's something that on the higher difficulty levels I'd like to see them doing but I dare say that's much easier to describe than implement.

@Lozzy

My gripes with the ai are:

Not aggressive enough at the start (especially) and during the race.

AI are affected by cold tyres much more than humans, this needs to be reduced as they lose about 6 seconds and can be easily passed.

When you make a divebomb they dodge out of the way, completely unrealistic, they should be more aggressive and turn in.

What you have imrpoved is wheel to wheel racing, but there are still imrpovements that would make them amazing!

Agree with this but it has to be done along with improved "intelligence".

@Lozzy

heres the video, i couldve got more positions in dry conditions and if it was at a wider track like australia or malaysia maybe, i also noticed its only really like this in championship season, quick races seem normal

the video recorded was in championship season, when i went into a quick race to attempt this, it didnt work all that well

I agree with SwearImSober but it's not just about aggressiveness, it's mainly about positionning. The first lap is a special lap, you can't don't put a special code/comportement in it. The first turn (and lap) is the ""easiest"" and fastest way to lose/win position.
Here is just before your first turn at SPA

And here, the reality

Drivers have to almost use the totality of the width of the track before the turn 1 and in the turn 1.
Then after the turn 1, they take their line but stay in aggressive attack/defense mode (positionning and lock tyres) until there is room in front and behind them.
