I think for this next thing this is the right place for it!

I don't know how i forgot to mention this before, but seriously a great rally themed boardgame called Rallyman. Probably best thing i have ever owned and played (with Dirt Rally ).

This game captures essential parts of rallying and truely let's you even feel a little adrenalin rush when tackling those stages. 
Easily moddable, so this game can be played with many different styles. 
-Want more "rush", add an timer.
-want different car classes, easily moddable rules for that
-want to recce or go blind. Can be done easily
-real tracks? We'll this takes a little bit work but printing google maps and editing them with photosop etc to have sufficient markings.
-there is an official extension called Dirt.
Etc, etc. 

So many ways to mod. Even some have made tracks 3ď models and to be playable with model cars 1:43 example.

I even played it with using my projector, so that those track markings where big enough for 1:43 model cars.

Point is, that i can not recommend this enough.

Oh man you're so right and I can't believe I forgot to mention this too! I love Rallyman. It's a brilliant board game that captures the feel of rallying with a remarkably simple design that somehow packs in different road surfaces (tarmac, snow, and gravel), on modular boards, tire choice (hard, soft, snow, gravel), cuts and jumps, water splashes, slides, mud, damage, punctures, a Sisu card, and so on. The regular game is 1/220 scale, and the Rallyman site sells some metal cars (Fiesta, Polo, DS3, Mini, Impreza), and there's a bigger 1/144 version with almost 100 metal cars in that scale.

Unfortunately the Dirt expansion (which adds gravel roads, gravel tires, and water splashes) just went out of print. You can still put it together with the 1/144 scale components, but the 1/220 scale is done for the foreseeable future.

Rallyman is one of my favourite board games, and couldn't recommend it enough.

Edit: Oh yeah, and the game was designed by a rally driver! His first board game design.

In this WRC.com article today I learned South Korea has a reality TV competition about rallying, called The Rallyist. The winner was Chewon Lim, who'll be driving an i20 R5 for Hyundai this year. Some of the episodes are online, but only in Korean:

If anyone here is into LEGO, or thinking about it, there's going to be a Technic rally car next year! 1,005 pieces, longitudinal V6 in the rear, radiator up front, steering, suspension, and roll bar. Doesn't sound like it has gearbox or differential.

Yes it's GT racing and not rally, but that's only to start. There is a solo mode that plays like the original Rallyman, and rally content will be coming in an expansion.
