Race Engineer Suggestions for next year

Recommended Posts

@SwearImSober Are you sure about that? I thought they only banned 'driving instructions' such as better lines to take e.t.c and driving techniques in general, but I haven't heard about tyre information from other drivers being banned as well.., I believe the engineer informs the drivers about which tyres others are on all the time actually. But if I'm wrong I stand corrected.

One of my favorite team radio calls ever at 2:07 in this video. "You're closing on Alonso. Traffic ahead. Opportunity."

I assume someone at some point suggested using the actual race engineers of the teams for voice acting? For me this would be amazing.

Also, having different "characters" for the different teams - no matter which team you drive for, the engineers in the pits are the same. If football games can do true to life likeness then surely an F1 franchise can?

The asian guy that you see in the pits for setup changes etc; i'm sure I saw him in a pre-race sequence where he appeared to also be a reporter/media bod?

Lol.

What comes to my mind:

  • Tyre details from other drivers. Before the race they could tell that "Verstappen is two places ahead of you and is starting on primes. It's crucial to our race strategy not to get stuck behind him." or just tell which drivers (near you) are starting on primes (So no, I don't care if Manors are starting on primes if I am in a Mercedes :D)
  • More accurate pit information with other drivers (now Jeff tolds that "Mercedes are preparing for a stop, not sure which driver yet" while I have seen about 15-20 seconds ago that Hamilton drove in to the pits). The information is useful but it needs to come before they enter the pit lane.
  • Race strategies with other drivers. ("Looks like HAM, RAI and PER are going for a three-stop. Others have not pitted so we assume they are on one or two stops. ")
  • Pit strategy for teams other driver to avoiding stacking. "Perez is going to pit this lap" and if you are in front of him, you could reply saying you want to pit and Perez has to stay out for another lap. Or if you would like to pit, the race engineer could tell that Perez is going to pit and I have to stay out.
  • Better information about tyres and strategy when weather is changing. "Button just put on intermediate tyres, he is the first to do that. We will update you about his pace" or "I know it's quite slippery out there but we could take a risk and put on options this lap. Everyone else is on inters at this point"
There are probably many, many other things I wish would be added. I'll try to think these next time I am playing F1.

More info about your teammate.  For some reason Jeff gives you more info about your teammate in free practice than in the actual race.
