[OFF TOPIC] Sebastien Loëb Rally EVO devs

Recommended Posts

Seems a patch is on the way for pc and xbone in the next few days, no details on what will be in it.

The PS4 patch went live today I believe. A fix for steering wheel lag, smoother frame rate and multiple usb connections (to allow Thrustmaster shifters to be used)

Been playing WRC 4 recently in prepartation for DR on console (I have DR on PC, but its a works PC so dont get to play much).

Must say WRC 4 on PS3 is not an awful game. The graphics are up to Dirt 3 standard or close. I use the controller and the car handling is quite satisfying - you can power out of the corners and counter steer to catch the back end, and catch slides etc. I have no idea how it is on wheel, but on the controller it feels alright. I kind of feel sorry now after a few days play milestone didn't get the shot at WRC 5. The worst thing for wrc 4 imo is the track similarity to wrc 3.

I think I am going to wait for the bargin bin for Evo, but people have said it has a lot of content.

Ah I missed the sound. Sound on WRC 4 is, well, not good.

Edit, I really hope that codies don't screw up the controller on DR. That was a schoolboy error for Pcars on Xbone and I reckon will cost SMS a small fortune. Xbone controller on PC at the moment works great.

Until I see the details included in the patch, I'm not going to get excited.

To be honest, all I want to do is complete the career mode and then bin it. If I can do that I'll say I got my moneys worth (£18) and be happy :)

Yeah Online and leaderboards seems to be full of cheater, I did read.
The best thing about the leaderboards is, they don't split it by class! you can put a time down for a stage in a Mini or a WRC car and it all gets lumped together, then just to top it all of you can use rewinds in time trial mode! :D

What I do object to most in SLRE is that they implemented the Rally Cross discipline without putting a single Rally Cross car in the game. They acquired so many licences for rally cars and PP cars in order to race them in their respectable disciplines but why they didn't acquire the licences for some Rally Cross cars to drive on Rally Cross circuits, is beyond me really. (Well, somehow it's not really a surprise because we all know Milestone's track record.)
To be fair, they might not be proper, full blooded Rally Cross cars, but they aren't strictly just the untouched Rally cars either.
They did at least apply what you could call a RX conversion kit to the models, doing things like covering up the headlights and such.
That's not a million miles removed from what happens at the smaller, national or even local level.
Not as if only slightly modified Rally cars have never taken to a Rally Cross event.
There is more to RX as a discipline than the FIA events and GRC after all.

As for DR, we honestly have some mixed messages.
On the one hand, the current standard of Group B cars wouldn't be right in Rally Cross. Content for the sake of content.
On the other hand... let's not forget the 3D models of the Impreza R4 or Escort Mk II. Or to a lesser extent cars like the 2010 Mini or i20 which are based on concept cars rather than the ones that actually competed.
It's murky waters once devs start saying some compromises are acceptable and others aren't.
As much as I love the guys, I'm going to call them out a bit on that.
There's no question how much they care about authenticity, but they've also demonstrated being able to compromise.
I'm in the camp that something is better than nothing.
That's how even though I think we have the wrong Quattro for the competition in the Group B class, I'd rather have the 'wrong', less competitive car than no Quattro at all.

And the internet has finally gone full retard...

According to one SLRE steam thread, the reason SLRE tanked so hard on pc is because of all the DiRT Rally fan boys...

:D

wow.

You can blame fan boys of that game when a series is stuck to a shitty format, but blaming fan boys of another game for weak sales? Even Ethan Hunt won't be capable of finding brain in the beings that came up with that.

wow.

It tanked because it's inferior in every way, not that us "fanboys" don't want more rally games, cause we do!  If they fix the multiple input issue so I can actually play, I'll probably still buy it if it goes on sale just to mess around on some new stages.

Blaming DR for SLRE's failure is just stupid, they released a buggy and lackluster game and they got what they deserved.

First SLRE, next the WORLD!! who's with me!! :D :D

I've been around the internet for 16 years...

I'm not sure I've come across a thread so dumb before. It has literally made my day! :D

I need to get out more :)

DR fanboy here, and seems like I have unknowingly caused SLRE to flop. Anyway I'm very proud of that achievement and the powers I possess.

what are the figures now?  Have they managed 10,000 yet?

Not checked, but I think 2000-3000 on steam.

To be fair, if they patch it so I can play it! I'll be more than happy to blitz through the two career modes!

I don't hate the game, It's just not playable for me atm.

I'd buy it if the force feedback actually told me what the car is doing, and if the audio wasn't so horribad. Zero effort has also gone into the codriver, who probably recorded all notes during a lunchbreak after being bribed with a burrito.

Well come April we'll see the sales compared with console versions.

Fanboys? Maybe if the SLRE team would treat their 'fans' as well as we are treated here, then mybe they would do better.  Nothing wrong with treating fans like gold, and produce a game with so much heart, what better result to have?

Besides @justbiglee passed out a lot of koolaid

I wouldn't have bought WRC5, but I would probably have bought SLRE if it wasn't for DR. The reason I haven't bought it (yet??) is that DR raised the bar and it's difficult to take a step backwards. It's not that I'm purely a fanboy (which I am), just that I'd rather play a repeat stage of DR than a new stage of something that doesn't feel as good.
Until I can pick it up for less than a fiver anyway.

According to steamspy Owners: 1,855 ± 968

That is weird because the last time I checked it was ~2500. Either it's fluctuation due to the steamspy algorithm or refunds.

If there is as many setup/controller/bug issues as reported even in this thread, i would imagine a massive amount of refunds.

There is.  I never bought it cause I waited and found out that they STILL don't support multiple controller inputs.  I use my CSP's straight to USB for the higher resolution, and it's just absolutely a must for any racing game/sim on PC.  A lot of guys use multiple input setups, people have cried out for support for it in all the WRC games with no response.  Same old same old once again with SLRE.  Also the same issues as their past games is no triple screen or super widescreen support, another flat out must-need for a PC racing title.

The Dirt Rally fan boys didn't kill the game on PC, the developers did.  Maybe if they listened to constructive criticism of their past rally games over the last 5 years things would be different, but they didn't and they released another rally game missing basics features.  AND, that's not even touching on the input lag, horrific sounds for everything, terrible optimization, and graphics that belong on a 360 launch title.  I can't comment on the physics cause I haven't been able to try it since they don't support my setup, but I've seen some praise it and a lot others say it is very floaty and hard to judge what the car is doing.

If they patch it up to be playable I'll give it a shot, but it really can't hold a candle to DR in any aspect.  We have been spoiled.

I'm amused by how many people are blindly defending the game in YouTube comments, praising it's all-round realistic approach.

I'll praise the game for it's content, but I don't see how the overall quality can be defended by anybody keeping a straight face. Actual fans and followers of Milestone's work live in a mini North Korea, seemingly brainwashed and accepting that there's nothing better out there.

It's not all been blind praise, because I have seen more than enough people fairly criticise the game, but bugger me there are too many forgiving people.

If they were sold an oven of similar quality in its own criteria then I doubt they'd have a kitchen to cook in for much longer. At the very least their roast potatoes would be nothing but charred crumbs of sadness.
