[OFF TOPIC] Sebastien Loëb Rally EVO devs

Recommended Posts

The DR engine source is a few years old, nothing out these days is 10 years old.

Dev's stopped putting out brand new engine releases quite a long time ago, instead working on them iteratively, so whilst the DR engine wasn't brand new for DR, it's source was gutted in some areas (physics) and tweaked/updated in others etc.

Iv been playing a bit of this today.  It's actually ok.
A nice replacement for RBR, feels like an updated version of it - but that's old.
The whole story board/career has a point, where sometimes DR leaves you feeling a bit like you are wandering aimlessly...?

The only thing I see wrong with this game, is the fact that DiRT Rally exists!! lol

I have the steering feeling dead on now, though it's a long way off being a D:R competitor.  More a laid back alternative.  The content is bang on, the feel just isn't quite there...

While the game looks kind of okay-ish (great list of cars and tracks), my time with the PS4 demo made this an easy choice. Sub-30fps, near undriveable with the pad and an inferior game engine from a generation ago was headache-inducing after a while. Also knowing Milestones' track-record with dreadfully slow patch releases, I avoided it.

I learned my lesson with RIDE.

#I'mNotYourTopDriver
Ride was Milestone? Huh, well the DR engine is also about a decade old as far as I can tell, but pretty sure the console version is better optimized.
Sure, but I don't recall the EGO engine making games suffer from texture pop-in and texture streaming issues, in every title no less (atleast on the consoles). Not to mention their games being limited to 30fps, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. They really should invest some time and effort into making a new engine or a genuine overhaul of the current one if they want to be taken seriously.

The only well - optimized games of Milestones for PC is the Moto GP series , RIDE and SLRE are very bad , i could run Moto gp15 around 30 frames stable in medium settings (mixure) with a GTX 550TI 1GB while with the same gpu in SLRE and RIDE in lowest i could not keep 30 stable frames (with cap)

On progressing to the WR cars, the steering gets weird.  The FWDs felt OK-ish, with 900-900 wheel settings. The Xsara WRC on tar is just not right.  Didn't matter if the corner was a 5 or a 2.  If I controlled the speed of the car, the same minimal (like 5degree input) worked for every corner regardless???

MotoGP games aren't very well suited for the PC because Milestone don't take advantage of the platform. They just make available a limited port with semi-stable performance, without expanded video options, which ultimately leaves the game looking really rough.

I'm very much gameplay over graphics, but when the graphics look shoddy then that annoys me. You get games like Hotline Miami which have intentional low quality visuals, but Milestone just lack in talent when it comes to making a game look good.

Having said that, in context of some of the tripe Milestone release, then yes, MotoGP is one of the best optimised games from their poor library.

I agree about gameplay is more important that graphics , and when we speak for a company like Milestone , you dont even expect they take advantage of pc power you just hope for a decent console port , i did not refer their four WRC because were games between 2010-2014 and the graphics looked like 2005 game the most , i had not any problem to run them so i just speak about their new graphics engine (after moto gp 2014 if i am not mistaken)and between SLRE , RIDE and Moto GP the last had the better performance in my PC..agrre also that they make mediocre games , they have to get better..i hope so

Milestone have released a second demo for SLRE. Different rally location, different car etc etc. Stinks of desperation.

If it were for PC (checked, it's for PS4) it could have given another chance for personal judging, not going by just other peoples word.

I got the Xbox last night after winning the code here & had nothing to do after setup, so DL'd WRC5 demo just for a laugh.  I can safely say, DiRT has set the bar so high that it makes the competitors seem laughably bad in a really tragic way!

On another note, I reserved a G920 online last night before I collected the XBox, and it had gone this morning, with no availability showing in Curry's/PC World anywhere!!!

So tonight, I will be mostly playing console DiRT like @RyuMakkuro , with a damn pad... lol

Don't you have a PC?

After winning the code, I now have both!  I'll have a G920 shortly & can then sell the G27, it'll do both (if I keep the PC that is...).

I wouldn't do that. sure G920 has more buttons in the wheel itself but it's drivers are horrible and you don't have h-shifter by default.. Only thing you can change in drivers is degrees.
You would have been better off with TX base + some rim and cable for G27 pedals to Thrustmaster base.

Yeah, Iv experienced the drivers. Mess!  I might not even keep the PC though, I only really play D:R.  Project Cars can be fun, but the FFB in it is a mess regardless!

As a G920 user, I can say that despite the drivers being crap, it's a great wheel. The only issue I have with it's hardware is that the brake pedal can be too stiff for some games.
For example, F1 2015 won't work with the G920 brake pedal because for some reason there's like a 40% deadzone on it. Instead I use the clutch pedal, which I'm getting on fine with, because I'm not going to use the clutch in an F1 game.

My judgement and experience comes from getting the wheel for a huge sale price of £160, so maybe if I paid more then I would take a bigger issue in the aforementioned.

Other than that, the game works great with the rest of the games I've played so far.

The TX base that's missing the ground wire and light's itself on fire, then the company tries to sell you a new USB cable so you can try to solder it on to the smouldering heap that was by the end $400? Sounds like fun!

I couldn't find it on the EU/SWE Playstation Store. Oh well. I doubt SLRE has dramatically improved anyway. Better not waste my unlimited bandwidth.

Logitech used rubber brake mod for G920 and G29 which limits pedal travel... Very bad decision and causes problems in some games that expects to get X pedal input at maximum. Other games just take what is maximum when you calibrate them.
It's fairly easy to take off if you want to.

Thrustmaster has been less reliable than Logitech surely, but nobody I know have had that kind of problems with warranty.

Well, now you do. Twice. Fun review I put up: http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1SF0XR2U6IOGN/ref=cm_cr_pr_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00ENFVS5Y
Edit* Based off customer reviews of 4 and 5 stars, it's got about a 40% failure rate, for a known issue which should have been easily solved, and instead TM asks you to give them money so you can try to fix it yourself. However, with all the bridges and shoddy soldering, it would burn out anyways.

So I assume you live outside of the EU, because here they would repair/replace the unit themselves.

Well, I do keep telling people that I live in Americaville.
Maybe it is just for the EU where they don't absolutely suck, but every product of theirs I've looked at has had similar terrible quality control issues, and they're products aren't cheap. I wish Logitech made a $400 belt driven competitor, I have loads of their stuff, it's always perfect.
