Yarp. But you can use both black and white for more contrasty reflections that help enhance the shapes, plus you can use crazy shapes and gradients (rather than just black/white) in cg that would be hard/impossible in real life :)

Hows come no one is doing action capture screen shots for wallpapers...be bad ass to have a screen shot from a car leaping the ski jump at finland, ripping through a section of forest in wales, or smokin the tires thru a hairpin in germany

Hehe, Yarp...
Crazy shapes are my favorite. Blender has a monkey head that's fun to try.

Check the screenshot thread. Here they're ripping the models out and rendering them in a separate program. At high res.

I like it, but I think it looks way too big, or maybe the cars perspective doesn't match the perspectiove of the image. I'm not sure, but there's something off about it.

I think this car perspective makes the scale better

It does look a bit better like that, I still think it's a bit too big though :D Either that, or those are really small stairs and a small news kiosk :D

Yup, scale is off, look at brick size on ground and gate on left for human size.  Does need a larger resolution too :/

I know this isn't a rally car but I want to post it anyway because after messing around with the HDRI renders for quite a while I decided to get back to my studio scene and did a complete remake of it. Here's how the end result looks like:

I don't mind if you do other cars like this from DR, a few shots from last year in this style came round in my wallpaper cycle, they look great.

Thankyou :)

Also, question; is there a little bit of a shallow DOF?  i keep looking at these and wondering if there is a little out of focus at some points.

I don't have any DOF applied :)

Also, here's my last post for today. I was experimenting with the reflections even more and found a way to make different parts in the livery to have different reflections based on the livery's specocc file (for example the grey stripes have a chrome look while the white base color is less reflective etc.)

I'm sorry to disappoint you guys but I kind of want to "protect" my work because I have put lots of time into tweaking my renders and to make them unique.

I can tell you that I export the models from 3DSimED 3 into .fbx format and then import them into 3ds Max. I'm using the mental ray renderer that comes with 3ds Max for my renders.

What I can offer though is that I'm completely open for render requests, just send me a private message with the skin and car you want and what kind of camera angles etc. you want and I'll do them for you (for free of course!) :)

Legend! I've got 11 race dept resources I'd love to have proper renders for.. haha. Too much? :p http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/authors/edgenz.233527/

I can do those when I have spare time :) I'll share them here every time I finish one.

So, because I'm never satisfied I went ahead and did a remake of my render studio once again :D Also had to import one of my favorite cars into the scene, it just looks so gorgeous:

Did you do something to increase the film grain?  I *think* it's detracting from the sharpness :(

The amount of grain increased after I tweaked the lighting which forced me to set the quality settings higher than before but I still didn't get rid of all the grain. That would need some crazy high quality settings and I don't really have patience to wait a lot longer for them to render because they already take almost 4 hours in 2560x1440.
