Fun to start comparing how the Yaris looked a year ago with the 2018 homologation car. Looks much more stable and balanced.

Looks like they've redone quite a bit on the front aero for the 2018 model. The front scoop is smaller, and less "mouth" on the sides. Also the small new bit on the top of the fenders. Looks like it'll generate more downforce in the front but with a bit less cooling for the brakes. Probably less drag aswell.

Would you look at that, a big Ford logo on Ogiers car in the tests

Ooooh, nice! They used to have a Ford logo, but that was a Ford Ecoboost logo on the back. That logo so prominent, and no MS-RT logo (only the sign) is a clear hint of either full on Ford or a significantly bigger backing from Ford.

Cool to see all the '18 spec cars and check for differences. Both Toyota and Hyundai seem to have changed their front aero a bit (I'd wager for weight distribution since both took away stuff), while I can't spot that many differences on the Ford or the Citroën. The Ford seemed pretty spot on last year, so I don't think they've made that many changes to it, and for the Citroën they (hopefully) focused their attention on the wonky suspension.

All cars look real fast in testing, think this season will be even tighter than the last :-)

It's good to see the Blue Oval featured so much in the livery, but I hope they also keep the M-Sport logo on. They deserve it. I also think the livery looks better in white compared to last year one, which I wasn't a huge fan of

Sooo... Jari-Matti Latvala is competing in Rally Prealpi this weekend with a Toyota Celica ST165. And this is how he arrived at service the first day

Given the period of the year and the fact he's a Finn it's a proper look :D
He also has had the opportunity to test the 2018 Yaris WRC exclusively developed for him by some Italian rally fans

Some of the coolest looking Ford WRC cars I think are from Ken Block.

Thats a rallycross car. ;)
I couldn't find the WRC car. I think they had similar looks.
They looked similar (he has always used this black/white Monster type of livery) but he also used this one previously

https://wrcwings.wordpress.com/2017/11/08/toyota-yaris-wrc-first-tests-for-2018/# < great blog that concludes changes in aero. Hyundai Monte test car seems to have same updates that Neuville had in Wales + new mirrors. Toyota is going for more downforce in front. Interesting to see if M-Sport is going with the same package they had last year (meaning, they hit the nail on the head last year) or there's something going on in the Ford Performance windtunnels. Also, what's up with Citroen ?

Nice read there @juu1ius :-)

I wonder how it'll go for Citroën next season. They seem to have designed the car with the mindset of a track car, where it's extremely fast as long as circumstances don't change. But as soon as too much changes or gets out of predicted bounds it just gets very unpredictable. I wonder if they'll be able to find a sweet spot or if changing it's behaviour will go against the original design so much that it won't be fast anymore.

Yeah, the 2014 WRCar had a similar look:

The second picture you have posted is one of the earlier liveries, 2012 or 2011 I think?

2012. It's the only year he competed in Neste Oil Rally Finlandjuu1ius said:

I find these developments very interesting, it's great to see how teams are trying to get a better aero balance with these new cars. Then again, it could be due to the fact my dream job is aero engineer...

Saw that Mads Østberg flew over to britain, wonder if it's just talks of a WRC2 season or if he's potentially the third driver for M-Sport.

I hope he gets a chance to drive a WRC car for 2018, he's a really fast and entertaining guy to watch rallying...

So Loeb back for Mexico, Corsica and Spain. Will be fun to see if he's still got the speed. But a bit disappointing to see them cut back to two cars for 2018 and apparently not aiming for the manufacturers title. Three cars and get Østberg in the car that Al-Qassimi hogs ffs. I know he pays the bills, but he'd be much better off in the R5 since he quite apparently don't have the skill to get anything out of the WRC.

I was hoping he'd take part in the Monte but it was probably too late. Love how he chose the two rallies Citroën won last year plus Tour de Corse where Kris was leading before the failure. He's still a Cannibal and he wants to win!

Yes, it looks like Citroen has already conceded the championship to the other manufacturers and is just aiming for the occasional win. Doesn't make sense to me, but hey, that's only one man's opinion...

Yeah does sound like Citroën has given up on the car. Maybe they're using the saved cash on a hefty redesign for 2019

Then in 2019 Citroen will be like, "ya we made some mistakes so we are going to take a step back and redesign and hopefully be ready by 2025."

You got me here, was about to post :D
That's the first time Ford will compete officially in the WRC since 2012, and it's sooo good to see them back! I'm very happy for Malcom and all of M-Sport, they fully deserved it
