Forum League

Recommended Posts

I agree with Porky, the shorter the event, the less Alt+F4 opportunity.  A 1 hour window would be adequate for 8 stages, but impossible to co-ordinate between us

Whoha, today was not my day.... had two serious accidents on stage 4 and 6 which totally ruined my time...  Well I'm waiting for a Season in which I have an upgraded car anyways

I would suggest 7 Stages per Event with a Service area every three. That means a little more endurance thinking during the first 6 and kind of a power stage at last because you go in with a repaired car and don't have to worry for any next stage.
How about 8 stages, service stages before the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 8th? That way there's still an even amount of stages (which feels more right IMO) and you have two power stages, instead of just one. That way it would also replicate slightly what @versedi was suggesting. Two birds with one stone IMO.
I'll most likely run the next season with this setup along with 72 hours between each event to see how it goes. That way Skiddy shouldn't miss an event :D
Well, shorter event = people can't practice. Fuck the internet issues. That shit is rare anyway.
There's a different solution to this. A rules for the League. We could potentially ask @SkiddyMcCrash to lock/delete this thread and I would make  a new one and have an editable OP. In it I would include various things, like current season standings, hall of fame (more like Hall of Porkhammer, but who cares xD ), etc. but most importantly, the rules.

Those could be something like:
- no practising for the league, excluding getting upgrades to the car through championship and running stages for optimised setup, since Shakedowns are often not long enough to make sure if the setup is good or not
- no "hot lapping" the stages aka saving in the service and running next ones in custom event (should be self aware from no practising, but best to make sure)
- requires forum activity from the entrants (at least in this thread), so it's an actual Forum league, not a "1 post Forum wonders" league
- Porkhammer runs an extra stage
- Using ALT+F4 to quit from the stage and have an opportunity to restart it is not allowed. Those found of doing it will be automatically removed from the league without prior notice
- car you choose for the first event is the one you're stuck with for the whole season (should make car choice more interesting that way)
- people who are inactive on forums will be removed from the league

So, what do you guys/gals think? Should we go with something like that?

Impossible to Police, but pretty much how it should be - oh, and no training mode!!

Thank you very much, most appreciated. Hopefully I can be active and make some new friends too :)

Looks perfect to me, thanks for putting those together.

I was very dissapointed to learn (after browsing this forum) about the ALT+f4 business. Is this something that still affects the daily and weekly challenges? If so - has there been any news from the developers on fixing that, or do limitations mean we will be stuck with that forever?

I'm not the best driver in the world, but easily capable of top 300 for these challenges.  Obviously for a player like me (who would never restart) I'm starting to get to the threshold of people who (EDIT: MAY HAVE) have restarted over and over.

Cheers

Yeah, may be hard to impossible in some. And lack of practising is the "no training" more :p
- Porkhammer runs an extra stage
hey
Yes? How may I help you? xD

Most people don't do it, at least those that are on the forum aren't. You can use it in any event and as far as we know it's just how the game works. Mainly the sore losers use that tactic anyway, so yeah...

Thoughts about the next league: I like more or less all cars, except R4 maybe. Your call.

8 stages are fine with me, but I would like a slightly bigger time window. 72 hours would be great, as I just don't have very much time to spare.

For example, yesterday I decided to run a custom championship to get basic upgrades on the Metro. Bad decision, because today, I ran out of time and had to quit after three stages, when I realized I couldn't make it to the finish.

I'll be back for Monte Carlo though, without further upgrades of course...

You can't do it in a daily event any more and haven't for some time.
When it's a singe stage, so there's no need for a save and resume option at any point, it's setup so that if you quit the game, or if the game freezes, or if racenet borks, whatever, at any point after starting the event, you're done. You can't get back in to it.
This is one of the ways people have been losing all their wager money recently.

Fell off the cliff edge on the very first stage, in some slow-motion, bullshit circumstances. Fucking Monte Carlo tarmac hover-craft mode engaged.

Absolutely rancid.

True, forgot about that completely. Thanks for pointing it out :)

Have set my little benchmark, god damn i hate that one single late call on a very difficult mid-speed corner on 5th stage..

And then i crashed 4-5 times on the final stage, because ADHD after 7th stage hit hard. AAaaaagh!

@RyuMakkuro
How do you plan to control the ALT+F4 thing?

Its impossible. The only thing that can work is by the same system used on daylies... must be a flag that changes once you enter the event. If game is closed "for some reason" you wont be able to rejoin.

Would be perfect if just "ALF+F4" (and close button in windowed mode) can be controlled, in order to avoid system hangs/failures... or connectivity issues.

People practising will be allways there since the events schedule is visible on website.

Don't get hung on that too much, gaming is gaming, we ain't competing for money, and if someone is doing ALT F4 tryharding - well, worse for him for being miserable, right?

Actually, it's not my thread :p And agree 100% on that rule, though the "All posts should be in English language only" rule should also be mentioned, otherwise it will become a bit too... confusing and disorganized.

Technically everyone can control it. If you see Steam notification of someone starting to play DiRT Rally a lot of times in a row and it surprisingly coincides with new time on the league... well, there you have it.
But generally speaking the entire point of this league is that it's restricted to forumers only, which means that humans decency and the fair play spirit should be more of a thing than in your typical random group of few hundreds people. Rules are there just so we know what's what, not to be like "we'll hunt you down if you do something wrong".

Last thing to make sure the rules are abided and everyone understands them, is to add to them a line that says "in order to be added to this league you need to make a post with your SteamID and inform that you read and understand all the rules of this league". Even if a little, this should make it so there's as little confusion about the rules as possible.

In any case, I'll make a new thread once @SkiddyMcCrash closes this one, so a notification would be nice ;)

PS. Don't worry @Porkhammer you won't have that extra stage to run :p Unless you want it xD

I prefer to force @Porkhammer to play with 900º :grimace:

Its the only way to erase his muscle memory!!

(or hit his head hard with a baseball bat... mmm... too violent. Maybe a crayon throw the nose is enough)

We have testers and modders in on this, so that's also kind of asking for a witch hunt.
I was restarting the game quite rapidly the other night taking comparison screenshots and tweaking specular maps because I'd found a possible issue with the C4 to report on the private forum.

That's why I mentioned "coincides with new time on the league". If you're testing a bug with C4, then you're obviously not doing League at that moment. Pure logic there :p
Been lurking in here for days, time for me to sign up. Add CrazyNevada, much appreciated.
You first need to join the league for me to add you. And no more just lurking if you really want to join ;)
