How about someone actually drives the 2nd event? >_>
With these tarmac physics?! Get stuffed :P

ahh back on topic, nice attempt at derailing us snaky!

Started earlier. Bit slow and cautious on the first stage, but only 2 seconds off the pace (at the time) on stages 2 and 3. While I was faster and more confident, I also assume problems for others.

Stopped because I was feeling light headed, but then again I haven't eaten all day.
Should soon be gorging on bolognese pizza though.

I honestly don't know how you do it, lol. I only seem to get them as a result of notable impacts to the wheels.

I think the reason I might not experience the problem as much is actually because I don't drive as insanely fast.
I think you know :p Then again, I can literally just scratch something while slowly sliding to an imminent collision with a tree, rock, wall etc. and get a puncture anyway. I'm not really interested in driving at 70-80%, it's the 95+% that gets me going. I don't mind driving a car that looks more like it belongs to Mad Max franchise, but I will never accept getting a puncture on a tire from a BLUNT impact. It's a rubber for crying out loud, it CAN'T be punctured by a blunt impact (not taking into account very small things with incredible force behind them... like laser, bullet etc.).

At this point, I would prefer if the tires couldn't be punctured at all. It would be more realistic than them being punctured from me just looking at them -_- I don't want to be the asshole guy that has to remind Paul about his "if you do something, do it right or don't do it at all" mantra when it comes to tire punctures.

Not sure that's strictly true. Not like they are solid rubber.
But I'd also factor in things like tyres being under pressure, how the tyre is fitted to a metal wheel, the body work around it...
There would certainly be ways a blunt impact could cause damage in a way that would be very likely to lead to a puncture beyond just thinking of the impact to the rubber itself.

Also depends what you call a blunt impack. Something like a rock on the side of the road, a fence, an out-cropping.
These are all capable of being sharp.
Not like they are NZG tyres either.

I tend to drive in the 90/95% area -of what I feel capable of-.
I don't really care if that makes me 30 or so seconds slower than Porky.

Aah, smart tactic - become fat to add more downforce for the corners!

Of course under certain circumstance even a blunt impact may puncture a tire, but those conditions are very strict and don't usually have a chance of happening on... I don't know... road surface.
I've watched through a lot of crash compilations and the last thing that was working, apart from the rollcage, were the tires. That's mainly due to the fact that the tire we see is not the actual thing that holds the air. So you can cut the outside part as much as you want but unless you pierce/cut through the one inside... tire will work just as well. So while you may deform the tire with a blunt strike, making a puncture is near impossible in a rally scenario. Especially since there's always the suspension that will soak a part of the impact that goes into the tires, most of it if it's vertically directed one, small if it's horizontally.

By 95%+ I mean the cars (and my input device) capabilities. Not what I feel capable of. Reasoning for that is simple. If I'm incapable of driving at that level, then by constantly trying to I'll be getting better and better. In other words, always pushing further, always trying to be faster, never being ok with my current level. If the game punishes me for being faster... well, long story short, not gonna play it.

So, people need to remember that puncture does not mean a nice nail hole punched into the tyre.

Puncture, in this sense at least, only means the air inside the tyre is no longer sealed to the outside world.

Failures include, but are not limited to the following;

1) Nail-like hole in tyre (traditional puncture)
2) Over pressure in the tyre, say from a massive impact.compression from landing etc.
3) Bead-seal of tyre broken, too much lateral force, either through grip (very possible with sudden change in grip) or side wall impact collision.
4) Tear in any part of the tyre, caused by tyre worn down and sharp rocks/surface etc under normal really driving, wheel spin etc.

Assuming you're generally speaking now and include real-life stuff, link me some kind of proof that any rally driver ever experienced a puncture upon any landing, during any event. Thanks!

K I set a time, and the less said about it the better lol. Nah I did have a nice fight with snaky though till the last stage. Funny too, I redecorated the front of my car a couple times on stage 3, then on 4, which is a night stage, the mechanics were kind enough to also bend the hell out of my light pod to match before they fitted it.

I´m back in "the zone" now. Just finished the event and I´m so happy. I recovered the joy, the pleasure of driving Dirt Rally. (Despite its tarmac xD)

OK, my problem basicaly was I received a nvidia drivers update.. and I didnt noticed that. This means all custom driver settings get back to default.
So I was playing with a lot of input lag. Cant believe this shit. In order to remove it I need to perform 2 changes with nvidia inspector:
- Maximun pre rendered frames -> 1
- Cap FPS to 58 (thanks @RyuMakkuro for the tip... weeks ago)

And voilà. I´m connected to the car again.

Some proper car setup settings and thats all. Bad news is I managed to fix this mess to late, on 5th stage or so.

Anyway

If my wife is "receptive" tonight, then today will end as a fucking awesome day

PS: I wonder how many people play with input lag and are actually getting a wrong impression of this game :hushed:

lol

And hopefully you don't suffer any input lag there either.

Apparently
http://www.crash.net/rally-uk/news/92987/1/higgins-loses-out-with-puncture.html

David Higgins: "Half a mile into the first stage we had a heavy landing over a jump, soon after realised we had a rear flat with more that 6 miles to go, we continued to drive with the puncture which cost us around thirty seconds. Then on the next stage trying hard to make up time we had a 5th gear spin at one corner, which also cost around fifteen seconds."

Couple more

Guy Wilks got one at Lyddon Hill
http://www.fiaworldrallycross.com/article/8789/solberg-wins-
Guy Wilks: “I got a front-left puncture coming over the jump at the end of the Joker and I knew it was over for us then but as I said I’m really happy to have got this far.”
^
That's a pretty small jump, so you'd have thought there would be another factor, unless they tyres were especially low profile.

So yeah, maybe not super common but apparently not at all impossible.
The details surrounding a lot of punctures don't get fleshed out, so could happen more often than we know.

But has a hovercraft ever suffered a puncture following a heavy landing on sand covered broken concrete?  I wonder how it would feel if you were to simulate that on a computer??  Probably wouldn't suit many in fairness...  Everyone would just assume it's Tarmac and cry lots about life & Impreza dashboards.
