So...Quo Vadis?

Recommended Posts

Well, it is pretty clear that with the next update and winter wonderland DIRT will leave it's status of an early access game. It has grown very well and I loved to see the progress since the first day it was available.

But whats to come? Can we expect more locations? I hope so because sure, the current amount is well enough to keep new buyers busy for weks and months. But whats with us early birds? I am still far away from having mastered all stages yet but man, somehow they start to wear off.

So please. Don't stop giving us more challenges. Make them DLC, I don't mind as long as they keep the quality standards of the current stages I'll pay for it.

A little discount for early buyers might be cool though ;-)

According to a hypothetical DR2: honestly I wouldn't like to see it coming in the next two years.

I'd rather like to see our actual DIRT evolving as a kind of modular game. I mean: why not? PCARS manages to do as of today. While to be honest it still feels kinda off to watch myself paying for content we already saw as backers in the beta-phase. But thats another story.

But you'll might get my idea. What would be the point in starting from scratch if you have a solid basis like DIRT that can be expanded in vast ways? Well, thinking about it: its still Codemasters, no?

So I think I have to make a vow here: for good DLCs I will pay if I can decide if I need them or not without disadvantages. But I will not follow a F1 policy in which I have to pay fullprice for an upgrade once a year.

PCars isn't like that at all, or maybe I'm confused... PCars isn't modular and they're working on 2....
Nevertheless, DR needs a 2 to make any big improvements. It's no secret the EGO engine could use a big update, or overhaul. Hell, it might even need to be completely redone.

To be honest, I feel like the DLC model in pCARS sucks hard, and I'd hate to see DR evolve into something like it. I mean, let's do some maths: The new DLC pack gives you 3 extra track layouts - compared with the 'over 100' that were in the original game, that's less than 3%. Car-wise, there were some 70-80 in the original package, so 4 additional cars is a 5-6% increase. So if we round very optimistically, we can say it's a 5% content increase. Still, the developer expects a whooping 15% of the original price of the game (7,49€) for it! How in the world is that price justified?

So please, please, please, Codemasters, if you do DLC, make it come at a reasonable price (thuogh an extra location would obviously actually be worth 15% of the original price because there are 'only' 6 locations in the original release...)

I don't think all the developers on the Dirt Team are able to help and create a new game engine.
Are those that design stages able to do that? If not, why don't they keep themselves busy with additional content for Dirt Rally?
Also now that CM are only focusing on racing games there will be some extra funds available for the different departments (F1 team, Dirt Team,...).

I was just wondering. I'm actually not that familiar with designing game engines and such.

Here's the issue. Game engine limits them significantly. So someone could say "What's the point of adding to a game that is severely limited by its old tech, when you could use the stuff you learned and make a new one with technology that would make it a lot more expandable and long lasting?"

I for one would love to see a DiRT Rally 2 in 2-3 years time, also as an Early Access title hopefully. Running on a fresh new type of Physically Based Rendering engine. That would open possibilities for longer stages, just like those in actual rallies, not limited in distance by the engine itself. We all know we want those 12+ minutes long stages.

However, in the meantime there should be some Updates/DLCs... and a fix for those tire punctures -_-

PCars can be a fun game, but I agree, the game is buggy as hell and developers only bring out DLC without addressing the issues and updating the game with the fixes it needs, and not even a year after it was released they announce PCars 2, that's just sad.
