Tyre wear.

Recommended Posts

What colour are your tyres generally at the end of the race.

I am on red tyres so I get worried about a puncture, however my team mate has made the same number of pits as me and is catching me quite easily. I stay on track and  am not in the gravel so is there anything I can do to reduce wear?

I'm interested to hear others' experiences with tyre wear. I've driven for a few teams through seasons and also occasionally check other teams' amount of pit stops in races.

Each team comes to each race with either an X Stop or X+1 Stop in mind so at the beginning of each race, you can see what your team has planned based on the tyre wear that CM went with for that car.

When I was at Lotus and also looking at Lotus when I am not driving for them, it seems like tyre wear is bad because the strategy is often the +1 stop strategy and my tyres wore quickly. Also, based on looking at Force India, they seem to more often take the +1 pit stop strategy, so I think they are also bad on tyre wear. When I was at Williams, I was at least almost always on the X stop strategy.

Going into each race, I think you can gauge your car's tyre wear based on which strategy they give you. The strategies are roughly this:

I play on pad and I am not good at conserving tyres. I can, but I lose too much pace in trying to do so, resulting in my best performances being when I simply go flat out the whole time. How about you all? Is anyone good at saving tyres without losing much pace? And pad or wheel?

man i have the same problem :/ i am on a 50% race and on options in china for example i can only make like 5 laps..i only touch the kerbs a bit and nothing else setups do affect tyrewear so i reccomend using araava's for championship races only! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pbqYGmWgHM

One problem is the tyre wear for each car is still the same when cars are on equal in multiplayer, supposed to be based on Mercedes but if you're in a Williams the strategy is +1 pitstop compared to Mercedes. Not right

Tyre wear is always high for me in China relative to the stop schedule compared to other races.

@lozzy can you have this one confirmed? That we have Merc as the 'equal' car but each car keeps its individual tyre wear characteristics?

That used to work out okay as it never seemed that ALL CARS ARE 100% RED BULL / MERC - previously it was more like all cars had their own characteristics for tyre wear, braking but had the same power outputs and could lap within \a tenth of each other.

I'm on ps4 and since the last patch or the one before the there is an extra pit stop then before so eg the 2 stop races are now 3 stop and on the 2014 side of the game a lot of the teams use 4 stops races going option 3 times then primes at the end whereas the tyre wear last yr wasn't at bad and most races were usually a 2 stop except for monaco Italy and Britain and this yr the tyres haven't been a problem with wear and some of the races like Austria Australia have been easy 1 stop and on the game they are 3 stop races on 50%

Tyre wear is always on in every mode except Time Trial.

Tyre wear should be the same for all teams with equal performance. If it's not that's a bug.

@lozzy I believe this to be a bug then, I practice for league races with a friend and we put cars on equal performance and drive our league cars, I drive red bull and his is Williams. We've had at start of some races his strategy is set up for one more stop than mine. Even if we've qualified on same number of laps.
I wonder if it's just the race strategy that is not updated but tyre wear is still the same? If you could look I to this at some point t it would be appreciated.
We race 50% distance, equal cars, dynamic weather
Thanks

I race 50% races.

Tyre wear is a big issue for me. I am Rosberg and Hamilton catches me like their is no tomorrow sometimes with one less pit stop. I don't understand what I am doing different to Hamilton.

I installed a more grip mod, could this have caused the tyre wear problem?

Thank you, I'll get back to you on Monday with what the specific tracks were that we experienced this. Hopefully it's just a incorrect strategy graphic and tyre wear is the same, I could live with that!

I've mentioned Hamiltons super powers before. He can be 2 laps down and still win races. I've seen him win aa race with 5 pit stops while everyone else did 3-4.

I think that for this game the wear levels are too high like austraila was a 1 stop where as the game it's 3 and Austria the wear rates are unbelievely high

the tyre wear is not a problem until you drive carefully into fast corner , but if you turn the wheel too much the tyres become hotter , wear faster and you need to turn harder , etc ...
specially in austria, brazil and belgium.

i think the tire wear online is quite good to be honest, its the best its been in a long time. its not scripted and you can actually look after your tires (or kill them) if you have the right setup and drive smoothly. for league racing in AOR at Bahrain the top 3 drivers all had a different strategy from each other and were able to finish with no punctures.

winner: 2 stop option prime option
2nd: 1 stop option prime
3rd: 3 stop option option prime option

so far through 2 official races and 2 social races there have been multiple tire strategies based on who can look after their tires, hopefully it isn't changed. the strategy the engineer gives you at the beginning of the race is useless half the time anyway.

Is there any reason why since the last or 1 before patch (ps4) the tyre wear has increased by another stop and will this patch due out this week put the wear levels back to what they were when the game first come out? So for monaco monza one stops and more or less the rest of the races back to 2 stop races?

the increased tyre wear happens on both 2014 and 2015 side of the game.

I've noticed an increase in tire wear also but I think it has more to do with driving characteristic of the top tier teams. Before when I was racing with force India and toro Rosso I could get away with one less stop. But with the Mercedes, because the car is so forgiving, you can throw it into corners at much higher speeds and get on the throttle quicker on the exit both of which add to increase tire wear.

But before some of the patch each race was more or less a 2 stop except for monaco Canada Britain Russia now Russia Italy are 2 stop and it's not that accurate compared to real life

Dont really play to much now so cnt comment since lst patch but Ive never really had trouble keeping my tyres in better condition than the AI (they loose more time at the end of most stints) Imo setups have little affect again so I run 3 or 4 front wing and 1 rear, 5 5 11 11 springs, max camber and toe 6 or 7 ballast and 19 rear and 18 to 19 front psi on the tyres mostly every track (not tested many to see if it will help tyre life as never felt the need) Tracks like china, spain, japan and malaysia I know my tyres will b bad if I do a 2  stop (or whatever is recommend) so often do the extra stop because I know its going to be more fun pushing for 56 laps than driving slow for 15 laps of the 56 :)  I dont look after my tyres at all but drive smooth naturally so maybe this has always helped me with tyre life? Ive noticed this year if your braking hard thr tyres heat up very quick and that will soon kill tyres if your over heating them and also locking them up all the time. Imo dont spend time avoiding the kerbs just focus on smooth braking, hitting the apex and getting a good smooth exit! When I first play on the weekend I always forget that and try driving quick :) Im locking up all the time running  wide and shaking my rear out of every turn, That makes me slow and would kill my tyres within a few laps so I focus on my 3 points and forget about speed and I always go quicker. For me if I feel im going quick (fighting the car) my lap times suck lol! Another thing to remember  is as the tyres do wear you will need to brake earlier and get on the power later as grip is more limited, some people forget this and loose so much more time each lap!
