Custom liveries aren't an option as lots of manufacturers only want certain liveries on their vehicles, so it creates licensing issues
I don't think so. Manufacturers already has got their certain liveries. More fan-made liveries should welcome without commercial fees, couldn't be a problem. Which manufacturer told to any RBR modders to stop their job? None of them! More than two thousand custom liveries already out there by talent modders for RBR, without any trouble.

You forget something: custom liveries are already out and sometimes you have to overwrite certain official liveries to use them (ex. Audi Quattro which has only one skin), this is worst  than people should use another additional folder to collect them

Look at, Steam Workshop would be a right place to share custom liveries. You could always check the author. Manufacturers / CM should ask the author to remove that given product from the list.
I'm sorry, but this line of thought has more than a certain amount of ignorance of the conditions enforced by manufacturers.
We were told quite clearly that Audi would not allow any alternative skins on their cars. Same applies to VW.
If a car has only one livery available, it's because that's all they were allowed to do by the terms agreed in the licensing arrangement.
It's come to light that Hyundai wouldn't even allow the upgrade system to be applied to their car, which is why no one is unlocking upgrades for it.
There's no debate to be had about that. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks, it's a matter of fact.

Did you ever stop and wonder why a racing game that does heavily support modding, like Assetto Corsa, does not use the Steam Workshop either?
The Steam workshop is a curated system. Codemasters and by extension Valve are to some degree responsible for the content put upon it.
This makes both parties directly liable because they have  a measure of direct control over what is made available.
A company like Codemasters doesn't have the resources to fully moderate such a system indefinitely. Few do.
The problems happen if a Manufacturer doesn't just ask nicely to take something down and instead immediately makes it a legal issue.
You might consider this overly cautious, but some companies don't want to take that chance.

Did RBR modders get in trouble? No.
Where those modded liveries being distributed by Warthog or SCI? No.
Anything being distributed through the Steam Works system is being done by Valve's own servers and you can bet there will be contracts in place that shift any and all liability to developers.
This is a core difference.
It's worth noting that some sites that provide a place for modders to upload their creations to do in fact get Cease and Desist notices and close their doors or file libraries as a result.

There is a certain amount of irony going on here, given how incredibly upset you got to me inserting some of the new DiRT Rally texture maps into your DiRT 3 Martini Escort PSSG, exclusively for my own personal use with no intention to redistribute it.
In your book, it's not ok to do that, but it should be absolutely ok for a company like Codemasters to do whatever they want with a manufacturers IP even if it goes beyond the terms of the licensing?

i can not understand why replay cameras do not like to many people.. I find them very TV style and i like them a lot..The replays cameras were very bad (police chasse style) in Dirt 3 and in Grid 2.

I really wish they'd skipped a location or two and instead concentrated on making a better replay system so I can watch what I just did rather than playing another pointless copy>paste location.....

For avoidance of doubt: Sarcasm.
Sure, more could be added to the game, but is there a single product in existence that has ever been beyond improvement? I prefer to concentrate on all the things that are done right.

People with 15 LOLs and another after 5 post may don't know how hard was to keep the hope alive from the begining that once CM will give us a replay system.
And some of us don't know how hard it was for the dev's to keep the hopes of DiRT Rally alive.

The series has been making less and less with every version since CMR 2.0. DiRT they were told to change the format or no game, with DiRT 2 they were lucky to get the money to make the game, and with Colins death before the games release the series looked over and done with, again. The dudebro/Gymkhana styling of DiRT2 + 3 was the trade off for getting the games released. The replay system is a legacy of that trade off.

This time around, they were allowed to try something new. They asked the forum members wanted we wanted. We didn't get everything we asked for, we didn't expect to. We knew there would be trade offs from having the restrictions they had. They have promised to look into changing it next time around. A lot people hear that and hear the Codies infamous "We are looking into it" response, but those of us who asked for this game have heard the response enough times to know "We are looking into it" from the DiRT devs means, they are looking into it. Actually, the biggest and best news the old forumers heard during the entire EA was @KickUp saying "We will look into it for next time" when asked about the replay system on one of the update shows.

Because, as any DiRTy gossiper can tell you, that was as good as a confirmation that the trade offs were worth it, they are already looking into D:R2.

Oh, there's definitely problems with the replay system and it's limitations, which is why I get so frustrated with the official trailers.
There are ways and tools to get far better, more creative replays, but whatever form they take isn't something Codies want to make publicly available.
Probably because they are rooted in debug code and if they were to make them an actual feature, they'd want to polish them up and make them part of a nice, user friendly UI that is quite accessible.
Basically, if they were going to do it, they'd want it to be something like the Rockstar editior in GTA5, but that would require a significant amount of development and budget to implement.
I certainly wouldn't say that would be worth dropping a location or several cars from the game.

I'd love to get more info on how they make the official trailers and the tools to mess about with it myself, even if it was an unreliable mess of code with no support from Codies themselves.

I have no idea what's wrong with the replays?
I think what some people want is an option to have ALL external tv shots in the replay, as opposed to the current mix of onboards and external tv shots. I must admit, I'd quite like to have it as well. As someone that likes to take a lot of screenshots, it would allow for more variation in them. It's far from critical, would just be a nice little option.

I see your point, but I really don't think these issues qualify it from not being finished. The game would be in EA for eternity if it catered for everything every person wanted. They chose what needed changing based on priority, and the force feedback and v2 handling was that.

Best post I've read so far in this thread.
I can't believe how ungrateful some people can be after all this effort the devs have done for us.
I feel sad that EA is already over but man am I glad they left the best for last

I appreciate that you praised the devs for their good work, but that praise got nullified by some pretty harsh criticisms given the budget that the dev team were working on, and the licencing issues they ran into.

I challenge anybody to make a better current gen rally game than DiRT Rally without having resources of the same ilk as EA DICE.

This game is a result of pure love and passion for rally, by rally fans, for rally fans.

Also, I literally have no problems whatsoever with the replays. I can't quite understand the issue people have, considering they're basically an accurate representation of  television broadcasts. Unless you want to have a free-cam to get right up into the exhaust to simulate shagging a car then I see no hindrance.

They criticise the game without taking into account that DiRT have a pretty little Team in comparison to SLRE and the crappy WRC, and they have done the best rally game ever until DR2  B) ,so do not criticise anymore!

If the VIPs can be disrespectfully critical, what else would you expect?

If you want people to take your opinion seriously, it helps to take other people's opinion seriously.

Frankly I don't want, and wouldn't use a single thing you listed, so I am glad they didn't spend the dev resources on it.

Who is the vip that criticise?
I have criticised the tarmac handling. Well not the handling per say, but rather the cars' movement. They still love me. ;)

They must have spotted my glorious beard. It also helps to give them cookies.

On a serious note, your criticisms haven't been outright rude or anything, but instead constructive by stating what exactly it is that needs improving, with a dash of distress and a side of teh lulz.

No, but sometimes the 'tarmac broken' remarks were teetering right on the very outside edge of obnoxiousness, but I suppose passion can lead to frustration

Like I have said, we should all take the game at face-value now, and just drive it like we stole it (at the price I paid, I sometimes feel I almost did!!).

Well, he has been more than a bit abrasive about it, but not towards the devs themselves, rather the users disagreeing with him and their reasoning. ;)
We can all get a bit heated. Sometimes we just have to think about walking away a bit sooner.

Being Brits, Codies do appreciate and understand banter and a fair few of us have had plenty of that with the devs, and vice versa.
@MrJamieLowes teased me yesterday by offering to post a screenshot of the tools they use to make the official trailers.
I responded by posting a screenshot of the game saying my save game was corrupt after updating to 1.0, which nearly gave him a heart attack as a coder until it was realised it was because my save file had been used with the test version.
Kinda the second time I'd done that. When Germany came out, my first tweet to him was, in true James May fashion, "OH MY GOD, IT'S ALL BROKEN!"
...It's actually really mean of me, aheh...

Even a post that says "Ahhhhh that replay system sucks, this game is shit" still gets the users point across, just not very politely :)

Just need to read between the lines and not take it personally. Even the most offensive and rude critic will have a point buried in it, you just need to look for it and not respond negatively, regardless how you personally feel about it.

To be fair the replays have gotten better with every location. The first three countries have less road side cameras than the locations that's been added after that. I still want a better system, but I respect the limitations of the engine and understand why it is that way.

Who said that? I didn't. I can't understand why you use unsaid quites.
Sorry for the misunderstodd, but did you really read first post? Then you should know how much i love this game. May my english is poor, i didn't want to make criticism, i've just asked something which seems to be important for me to see DR is the best rally game ever. Not less, not more.
