[DiRT Rally] Steering angle of all cars 900° (=driver setting) since 1.0 -Soft Lock doesn't work

Recommended Posts

With Soft Lock on and Steering Saturation 100% all cars have 900° steering angle instead of the "real world" value. This bug came with 1.0. Before all was working as intended. I am currently using a DFGT but will get my T500rs back tomorrow.

Any idea how to avoid a complete reinstall? Is there maybe a certain file that has to be deleted and then restored by "verify gamecache" on Steam?

Please read again, Soft Lock is activated and all cars are having the same steering angle (900° @ 100% Saturation) since the release of V1.0.  Seems to be a rare bug.

After some further testing -now with T500rs- it seems as if Soft Lock is broken on my Dirt Rally. There is no difference if i turn it on or off.
Saturation works. With Saturation set to 60% i have 540° steering angle for all cars now regardless if Soft Lock is on or off.

I hope there might be an easy way to fix it because i don't want a complete reinstall with a 32GB Download...

Before reinstalling whole 32 GB try veryfing your game cache integrity by Steam - watchout this will remove all customized files like liveries, huds, sounds, etc.

Did you checked "allow game to adjust settings" in profiler?
Yes i did when i was using the DFGT -this setting was standard for all my profiles and for the global settings too.  The Thrustmaster driver doesn't have such a setting but all worked also fine with the T500rs before V 1.0 with standard driver settings.

Thanks, i've tried that first even before asking for a solution in forums.

I also tried to launch DR as admin because it looks as if DR can't "overwrite" driver settings but this didn't help either.

I'll wait before i reinstall because i prefer to drive with 540° rotation and at the moment i doesn't have to change anything if i use different cars. Just have to leave saturation at 60%.

So it seems as if something has been changed with Version 1.0 that causes this problem only on certain PCs. I hope future patches will solve this.

I've noticed the on-screen wheel isn't moving at the same rate (less) than my T300, so I may be seeing the same issue.
You must remove the arms/hands in order to see the real steering wheel movement according to your wheel.

Theres an option to do that.

Why? because theres no animation for arms and hands for turns above 180º.

But this doesn't seem to work if soft lock is broken. My virtual wheel (without drivers arms) never moves synced with my T500 since V 1.0.

Calibration was the second thing that i have tried after veryfing my game cache integrity by Steam.

my soft lock now works, this is a problem with calibration, dirt rally not detect 900 degrees of the wheel.
you must save the configuration after calibrate the whell and edit the .xml on this route

C:\Users\<<user>>\Documents\My Games\DiRT Rally\wheelsettings

put atention in this parameters:

< soft_lock value = " true" / >
< Wheel_rotation_degrees value = " 900" / >

I didn't have wheelsettings.xml in this folder. I remember that i have deleted them all some time ago (before V1.0). So i created now another files by saving ingame configuration.

The game created 8 wheelseetings.xml's, wheelsettings_1.xml - wheelsettings_8.xml. The first one (wheelsettings_1.xml) was the savefile. The rotation degrees were set to 295° (the calibration value for the 90° part). I changed this value to 900° and launched the game. It worked. Softlock and the "real world" steering angle are working again now.

I deleted ingame the file again to try if it would bring back the bug but it didn't. Instead the game created a complete new set of 8 wheelsettings.xml's as placeholder in X:\Users\<<user>>\Documents\My Games\DiRT Rally\wheelsettings. It seems as if changing Wheel_rotation_degrees value to 900 once has solved the bug.

Thanks for the hint. <3

Also be sure to keep steering linearity set in the UI to zero. The game randomly messed this up once time and made the handling way too sensitive.
