[F1 2015] Split Strategies in Full Race

Recommended Posts

I did a full length race in Canada last night and after starting P2, I was able to grab the lead on about lap 20. Then, on lap 22 I came through the final chicane to notice Rosberg (my teammate) diving into the pits, which was odd because my pit strategy said I would be in on lap 32, making the 70 lap race a one-stopper. This, of course, did not work out so well. I eventually ended up stopping on lap 32 and then again on lap 54 to take on a set of options, but it wasn't optimal. After the race, I discovered that all of the other drivers had two-stopped. So, I'm a little confused as to why I was given a one stop strategy when all others two-stopped. Actually, I've never found any way to adjust the pit strategy, so maybe I am overlooking something. Any pointers on this?

I noticed once during a 100% race round Singapore as Vettel, I was P3 all race but noticeably caught the Mercedes at just over a second a lap in the middle and in the final ten laps, after the race I looked at the race director the Mercedes had two-stopped whilst the rest of the field had three-stopped so I think there are alternate strategies

Do you know if there's a way I can establish a two or three stop strategy at the outset? Or do I just have to make those calls on the fly over radio?

I don't think you can pick your strategy at the beginning of the race.

Your strategy in your information tab will change if your tyre wear is too high, so unless the game is glitching, I don't think you should have to make calls on your own. However, you might want to make those calls anyway to make sure make the right decisions are being made, taking into account the race situation and what you believe to be optimal.

I listed most of the potential initial strategies you can be given at the starts of races in this thread, so you can use these to plan what you will do in the race and not have to depend on either what the engineer gives you or improvising based on how the tyres feel.

It is interesting that you and your teammate were given two separate strategies. I haven't really seen that. It is also interesting that no one took the 1-stop strategy in your race. I had a 100% race at Canada recently and there was rain, but it was slick tyres for everybody starting from lap 29 and Hamilton and possibly others did a 41-lap prime stint to finish.

This has to be adaptation. Stay out if you feel that your tyres are good. However, do not stay out if your tyres are good but you are losing time to the ai. In Canada, I remember that I did more laps than the ai during the 1st stint, at around 34-36 laps, then when I put on the primes, I pushed like a madman since they should last longer. Normally, if I feel the tyres are bad, I will pit quickly because the difference between old and new tyres in this game is immense...

I have a feeling that once the car gets lighter, we are better than the ai. It is probably just the the Mercedes in 2013, when their car was horrible in heavy fuel while it was a beast in lighter fuel. I seem to have noticed this because in China, during the 2 first stints, I could only match the ai or go slower. But once in the third stint to last, I started closing on Rosberg and Vettel, as Hamilton, by 1-2 seconds per lap. I was like: WTH? The car feels unreal now. LOL. Some tracks, we do have a huge advantage to the ai such as Singapore, I seem to have at the early part of the stint, 2-3 tenths over the ai, but soon as the tyre wear kicked in for the ai at the end of the stint, I started pulling away by 1-2 seconds per lap again.

Thanks for the feedback. Good to know, and might make an interesting feature to be worked in to the 2016 edition. The ability to cycle through the number of pit stops for a given race.

I was doing a 100% race as Rosberg, and it told me my strategy was supposed to be a 2 stop. During the race most of the AI did 4 stops, and Hamilton did 8 stops, lol.
