using your Porkhammer's WorkShop....
My own critic: I need to learn the road more, so I know if that is a long 6-turn or a quick 2-turn...
I think I know most of the hairpins.
I need to learn where I throttle down, and when to gas it up on the apex of  the turn so I get better grip

In order to get a 8:3X.XXX or even 8:2X.XXX you need to be able to drive all track almost with your eyes closed.

I am able to perform 8:38 and I can consider it my best run. Is the best I can output with the 405.

Dont be surpised about Porkz times because he can set moster times. His runs aer almost a constant leap of faith fron the beginning... with almost no errors.

Wasn't sure if it was Porkhammer who have me this tip: turn off all sounds except navigator. Then just listen to the "Force"
:-)

Well, the WR on tarmac Pikes Peak is still mine. About 0.7s ahead of Porkhammer. The main thing with Pikes Peak is that often the parts where you think you don't lose time are the parts where you actually do. Especially the higher you go. High speed corners can make you lose a second per corner (not joking).
It's a real challenge and until you know the track like the back of your hand, you shouldn't even try aiming at the best times.

Waiting for someone to obliterate my time though, since a gamepad will never match steering wheel. At least not with me using it :D

It certainly won't be me beating you Ryu. I hate the all tarmac version due to the cars still living in understeer city :(
Or the Quattro, which is Over-steer city.  I need to play about to try and dial that out, but doubt il be able to achieve Porky's stability...

Then you need to take the Quattro. I'll post my setup on Steam Workshop, which you should find to be very enjoyable without basically any understeer.

Quattro understeers like mad for me. But then i've not driven it on the all tarmac version, so not sure if that makes a difference?
It understeered like mad in V1. And it does make difference, as on all tarmac you're running tarmac tires, while on mixed it's gravel tires.

Edit: Done. Same name on Steam as here, but with a space.

Btw would it be better to record video on chase camera so it's easier to see?
I would record the actual run, not the replay of it, but that's just me.

I drove 70% of the course on opposite lock, best I managed was 9.02 I think, but the car was really unstable

Too aggressive on the throttle maybe? It needs very gentle and precise throttle control with its V2 update.

This. I'm going full throttle only on the straights, each corner is about 50-70% throttle at best. Hairpins are a play on the throttle to keep the rpm's in the powerband but not going completely haywire and spinning in place :D

Still holding the WR, no idea how xD Had a go again at it, was 2,4s behind it, but with a "flying finish" xD

Have a look through this video. Listen to the engine sound and look at the rpm's as well. That should give you a rough idea how throttle management is vital to keeping #THATcar on the road.

Throttle control was ok or I'd have spun and died on the side of a hill many times!  I know I could find more stability in the setup, I only whacked the diffs up & off I went!

Inside the driver's view?

Whichever camera you use. But if you want the best possible feedback about your lines and car control, then chase camera only. Nothing else will show... ekhem... THE CAR ;)

Spent 2 hours on Pikes last night trying to beat Ryu. I managed just 1 clean run and ended up being 0.4 behind Ryu. PC nearly went out the bloody window. Will try again tonight. I used Porkys setup for my runs which worked very well I just tinkered with the lower gear ratios :)

The Quattro is a proper monster!  I had a couple of runs last night and can't crack the setup, still doing 8.55's

So me bumping the result to 8:21.4 was worth it :D Ok, gonna improve that even further then :p The record shall be mine xD

@KevM Seriously, try my setup. It's drifting on 1st through hairpins and rest is a nice play on throttle, with 50-70% through the tight parts and going full mode when you know you can. Oversteer is very easy to manage. Heck, I barely use opposite lock to be honest.

Yeah I barely use any over steer either. Mostly on the hairpins. It's hard to nail every single one of them mind. At some of the split sections I was 3-4 seconds up on Ryu, but think I lost my time towards the end due to lack of confidence following the many many silly mistakes I kept making.

These are much, much improved, but it's still a huge pity we can't take 'normal' rally cars in this superb model, either in hillclimb or custom rally mode. Would love to compare them.
