Evolution of Rally (Community made video)

Recommended Posts

Let me know if you need anything else recorded JZ.
Ehh, not unless you want to do something really fancy for the end credits.

Anyways, here's the semi, not really, end result. Audio still needs to be worked on, but I'll do that after redoing the editing.... damn.

Some transitions need improvement, like the switch from the Pug to Scooby. Pug had a nice jump at the end, but it probably would look more flowing if it cut to the subaru right at the jump (Pug goes up the crest and then next frame from the other side is the Subaru cumping over it). I like the switch from BMW to Manta. But anyway, nice video :)

Yeah i suspected, that was that one lucky day my rig would record above 40 in any circumstances >_< Ask someone else for the Kit Cars if necessary.

manta transition too long
pug to scooby needs work

most of the cut transitions basically. there is either slight judder pauses or noticeable swaps.

I think you're right. I think it popped up in the late 80's, after group B even... here's Mr. Vatanen doing some testing in 1988:

That one was weird, but I didn't feel like fixing it since I have redo it all anyways. Yet again, I have to redo it all again anyways. Mini, Lancia, and probably the M3 are all too long, so everything else will move. I don't like the transition to Pug, it's just a random spot in the forest, but following my 30ish second average clip length, that's where it was.

I don't think it's that big an issue, premiere will just duplicate a couple of frames here and there.

Well hiddy hidy hoo. Little do you know that the replays give a weird blurry juddery type deal when transitioning cameras. I've said before that the little bit of camera movement prevents a clean cut on the forest, and yeah, it could probably be reworked, but Premiere starts to bog down when you start overlaying video feeds with different opacities/overlays so I either have to scrub through it frame by frame or render it out. And again, I need to redo it. The most noticable ones are the Pug to Scooby, which I obviously didn't place right, and the Suby to Polo. I don't know how much anyone noticed, but it suddenly transforms from a Subaru to a Polo after the hairpin. I realized that I didn't have enough time to incorporate all the cars so I kind of just rushed it finished, I'll rework everything probably tomorrow. I'm getting a new case and a SSD tonight, so I'll be doing that after work.
I was also going to say your wrong twice, because I just woke up and I'm tired. Until I realized twice that your talking about the transition, not the clip. :p I'll make a new video shortly, but if this keeps up I'm going to have to dish out $20 to buy premiere for another month.

*Edit also, depending on the compression/color of each individual clip, the transitions will be more or less noticeable. I need to find more source footage of the film reels for the 60's and 70's, they're both using the same and it has that weird dark and blue/green spot.

It's a high possibility. I didn't actually check when the M3 was used, I just put it there based on it's position in the game menu. So, what? Manta, M3, Pug? Or Manta, Pug, M3?

i dont get why you get upety when i reply. you asked for feedback i gave it. the transitioning is easy. i have done over a 100 videos for dirt rally so obviously i have a rough idea about the transitions which are fine its just how you are doing them also the time when you pick to transition. its actually pretty simple to do. like one click easy. no chop,no stutter.

well you could alter lighting to fade in. like from the 80s style to later footage so the transitioning is as noticeable for eg. start the fades earlier than you are and transitioning.basically all we are talking about here is 7 or 8 pieces of footage with fades transitions.about as basic as we get.

windows movie maker does that. you dont need premier.

im not being funny with you just giving some feedback.

I don't like the filters at the start, way too dark, as you say, and just don't fit.

If i could change things again, i wouldn't have chosen the same cars in different eras.  Two Subies for example.

Have a look at my transitions on Movie Maker.  Between the Evo X & the Impreza R4, the transition is virtually seamless, both for audio & visual!

When you don't have a lot of RAM it can be difficult to edit video, especially at high resolution & framerate. If I toy on the timeline to seek for preview screen, it doesn't take too long too fill up over 16GB of memory.

My first montage video was from 8 years ago with Gran Turismo 4.

It's a true classic!

Because uppity is fun. and continuing to reiterate more than Weird Al in the intro to Spy Hard, It's nowhere near a semi finished model. It's just kind of frustrating when everyone's like "There's all these problems you already pointed out, and said you were going to redo everything, but I'm going to tell you anyways." :P EVERYTHING is going to be redone, this was a misplaced first step, and I'm not using crap maker. You can't make me. >:)The film effects, I've already stated I need more footage for, or I might just do away with altogether. Otherwise I'll have to color correct all the changes the source video goes through.
Manta, Peugeot, M3.
Thanks Porksheimmwer

Well, that's what I got. Redo the group A, since dgeesio's run was like 5th place. :p

Ahhhh! I haven't gotten to audio yet! :s  Maybe I'll hold off on updates until I get a more finished product since a quick sketch idea seems to be blowing past everyone. You're transitions seem to be mostly cross fade... which doesn't work for this application.

i dont think people mind if you dont get it right off the bat. the reference to movie maker was just to highlight what you trying to accomplish is actually very simple and you dont need fancy editing tools.

if you edit well you dont need fancy tools.

look forward to the video and its progression. B)

Cough! So, uhh, sorry. I ran out of time on the Premiere demo and... well... anyways, I have Premiere again but I need to start over. It actually devolved into I ran out of time, then quit my job because it was awful, then decided I should save the money until I get another job, Which I have! So, progress needs to be started over from scratch, but if I can stop being lazy I should be able to get it done. I know, I'm the king of excuses.

Oh, also on a random sidenote, I just figured out like 2 days ago that with my Xbox music pass, or groove, whatever, I got a 100gb of onedrive space, so... we all could've used that. I've now had it for a year and never knew.

So, anachronism problem. @F2CMaDMaXX only gave me a portion of his manta clip, which is way later than it needs to be, so it's placed after the Kit car, which is 4 cars from where it should be. :p

So things got changed up then?  where should it have been from/to?
The beginning. :p I for some reason only got the later part of the stage? And not even all of it. It's kind of weird. It should be after the Stratos.
https://youtu.be/uCOiTxN3Nvk
Edit* Youtube KILLS video quality, so I might try to do it in 4k.
Also, Audio has not been touched, and it needs leveling out. The forest transition is no more, and probably for the better, still think I need a good soundtrack, but maybe not?  Also need an intro, but I'm working on an idea right now.

Intro Idea
https://youtu.be/rDWArt7kEeY
For some reason it makes me giggle. I don't think it turned out as well as I hoped.. I suppose I could go for the "cinematic" 23-30 FPS and stretch it out.

You've got the 205 after the Beemer, needs to swap.

IIRC:  70's > GrpB > 80s > GrpA

Whatever. :p I've also got the manta after the beemer. I could just argue that that's the way it's set up in the game menus.
Actually, I was going to fix it when I hit the manta, but at the point where I got to it I was already at the Suby and didn't want to redo it all. :p
Guess I'll need to anyways, but not too worried about it since the manta would still be off too.

Yeah not a bad idea for the start :)

Alright, here's the Manta for the Pant Mawr section, as we've moved it earlier you shouldn't need more, including me effin up a hairpin, let me know if you do need that, i'd rather re-record.

https://youtu.be/Lb-KH5jjbCg

Also, i think it would progress, GrpB RWD > GrpB 4WD > 80's - It's just the years those cars were running.

Can you drop box it?
Not sure if it really matters since this is a fan video, but I may also want to overlay those sweet DJI banners. :p
