[BUG] Tyres in a wet to dry race.

Recommended Posts

Wanted to report a bug, if it is considered that, in a race I had then went from wet to dry early in the race. I started the race on full wets, and about lap 21 it was dry enough to make an early switch to the prime tyres. I ran a normal stint on those, and when I checked the weather before making another pit, the engineer told me there was no rain expected for the remainder of the race. Thus, I did not think I needed to specify that I wanted to go to the option tyre (or at least a set of slicks). When I pulled into the stop, much to my surprise, the crew fitted a set of intermediates and I had to come back in again on the very next lap. This occurred at Austria in the middle of a full length race.

the engineer and AI don't work smartly and never have. to be safe, NEVER trust in him. Instead, choose your tyres manually before you pit.

Already learnt that lesson.  :)

Always select tires manually before you pit if racing with changing weather.  A trick I use to gauge when to change over is to listen for when the race director deactivates or activates DRS, I'll usually change tires within 3 laps.

I think there big problem here is that there is no indication to the player which tyres they're going to get at their next stop. I will start shouting about that and see if it's planned to be added for 2016 and if not to get it added.

I also think it would be better if the strategy just updated on the fly, told the player and then let them change it. So in this scenario it would have automatically selected you a slick tyre to use. Then if you don't like that choice you can just override it. When I've suggested that in the past though there has been resistance for reasons I forget now.

One of the things is not being able to select a tyre once you've entered the pitlane so no last second selection. I might be wrong on that though.

I discussed that with Lee, he was comfortable that it was reasonable that you couldn't change tyre choice while in the pit lane. I don't see a reason you can't but more information would mitigate the need to do that as I think it's a damn I forgot to change it quick do it now thing rather than something you plan.

On 2014 it was mostly annoying because any input you selected would be ignored occasionally. Placing a tyre choice in Sector one or two of your in-lap didn't seem to count. So If I selected Prime and strat said options, if I selected it before the last possible second I might not get the right tyre. So we selected it in the pits. Lee is correct, its unrealistic compared to RL as I would be able to get Prime selected even when pulling up to the box and being able to see they had options out for me :)

But we don't have all the real life weather information (like guys you can't even give us the weather for the race in qualifying...sorry to bring that up) so I think people like to have the option to change at the last minute if they hear the sneaky bugger in the party has figured out the track is dry enough for primes and you want to take a little risk to make some big gains!

I think this is only a good thing when thinking about realism.

It is realistic that you can't, but the problem is that in real life, you have the luxury of actual people that can make decisions for you that you can rely on. In the game, it is possible for situations where the tyre choice actually does need to be made that late, such as a late-lap collision or a late-lap rain update.

I'm a bit off-topic but there is something which disturbs me concerning the tyres when weather changes.

Engineers shouldn't know exactly when you have to change tyres until someone takes the risk and then by comparing the pace, the engineers can be more specific.
This thing should be a risky gamble for every drivers even more if it doesn't rain(or dry) everywhere on track.

When you start a race in full wets or inters you don't need to use Prime's if i start a race in rain. and after 15 - 20 laps the track is dry ill only use Options to have the Pace.

how about if you change tyre choice in the pitlane as you're driving in for your stop, you get a delayed pit stop. Where the machanics are seen rushing back in for you're new preffered set of tyres? You may have to wait an additional 10 seconds in your pit stop.
