Any way to change the car preview thumbs ingame

Recommended Posts

Is there any way to change the car pics when switching livery in the menu?
I would like to replace them with modded livery pics.
I tried various pssg files, but I couldn't find anything.

Nope.
Believe me, if was as simple as editing a PSSG file, we'd have figured out how to do it back in May.

It seems you have a broad knowledge of strange things Sir @BrySkye. I'll take the advantage and ask the forbidden question - this is solved like this in every rally/racing game due to licensing, right?

*shrugs* Who knows. We actually did figure out how to do this in DiRT 3. Not only that, but we could even add completely new liveries without overwriting old ones that still had their own unique thumbnail pictures.
Just required injecting some new textures into a PSSG archive and doing some database editing to call it up.
For whatever reason, the system has been changed in DiRT Rally. IIRC, it was suspected the thumbnails might be buried in a .bin file or even the main .exe
It's not always just about licensing, sometimes devs just want to make their game more secure.
Overall, DiRT Rally is much harder to mod than DiRT 3, and even a proper 'Any Car, Any Track' mod doesn't seem possible at the moment.
It's only gotten harder to mod as Early Access progressed.
Regarding licensing, what I would say is that I doubt they would go out of their way to make changing thumbnails harder for licensing concerns while not making it much harder to get the replacement skins themselves in there. The skins themselves are a bigger 'issue' in comparison.
