Is F1 2013 harder than F1 2015 edition?

Recommended Posts

I just "discovered" F1 2013 classic edition, bought it digital, and I am loving it. The classic module is fantastic (80s and 90s) and currently the only part I am playing. But is really hard. Is this a "normal" thing? Never played F1 2013 before, so even my ps3 controller feels small and weird on my hands. I understand that in real life the dynamics of 80s cars are different, I am 41, so lived that myself, but does it translates to the game as well?

Is F1 2013 harder than F1 2015 edition? Did Codemasters "soft" F1 2015 somehow to make it more arcade?

I am back on 2013 but not on the classic content. I am at the start of a career in the 2013 season. I have driven the classics when I first bought the game and like the 2013 content, it is just different. To me, I find the the V8s more fun to drive and of course, the game is far more polished than 2015.

I just love the classic content. Even though is ps3, I find the engine's sound amazing. The experience, for me, is different but better.

But my question is more about handling difficulty of the 80s and 90s cars. It took for me a few hours to be ok on F1 2015, with almost every assistance off. I've spent couple of days and I still can't win any race. If I go too slow, I can't get out of last place. If I go too fast, I get out of the track on 1st curve. It's like the 80s cars have no down force at all.

If you’re only playing the classic content, then yes, you'll definitely find them to be more of a handful than even the 2013 cars, and deliberately so. In the 80's and 90's the real F1 cars had more power and less grip, and that's reflected in the game.

I didn't find the modern 2013 cars hard to drive at the time, but now when I go back to them after playing 2015 I can hardly keep them on the track. So it's probably just what you're used to, rather than a deliberate dumbing down.

Personally I found the 2013 cars harder to drive than the classics as I found the cars in 2013 extra twitchy had to download a grip mod to bring it under control. 2013 is my least favourite of the games but I did enjoy the classics for the most part.

2013 is harder because of the tyre wear mostly. (In the real season it was a problem as well). But a lot of it is down to what you're used to. Play that for a week then try 2015 again, you'll probably have similar results. I seem to remember the classics were a bit easier than the career mode (especially at the start without any upgrades).

I've got 2013 running with some really good mods and stuff like difficulty, AI speed, Graghics are real easy to tweak yourself, so I've got it set up to my preferences and enjoy racing far more than I can in 2015. Plus I can have a career and actually enjoy the practice/ quali part of the game because it is way better simulated with believable results. The only one down side is, it only has a 1 hour practice, but has full quali.

i always struggled a lot with the controller with F1 2013 and earlier, CM did a good job with F1 2014 and lately with 2015, the car feels a lot more responsive through fast corners (e.g. Canada wall of champions chicane) and tyres no longer lock up randomly... that is why i never play with pre-2014 titles anymore, but i have to admit F1 2013 was very good (besides the handling part)

That is, I believe because the earlier games where developed more with wheel, pedal and simulation in mind. I have always used a wheel and found 2013 to have great handling. Not knocking the consoles, but now I feel they have done a complete 180 and gone in the console/ arcade direction, rather than cater to all.

yeah I agree 2012 performs the best for me that's for me the game I have the most fun on and the closest races. Except for maybe the tracks where generally I am pretty strong. recently started a new career up on that game. Only got around to doing a couple of races though so far.
